Family weekend.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Last weekend was family weekend at WWU. So we all loaded up in the minivan and made the trip to visit Preston. John and Carol came with us and we had a mini family reunion with cousins who also attend WWU. Two of Maren's cousins have kids at WWU, so three students from one extended family, that's pretty cool. It was also Mae's 89th birthday so besides tons of pizza, there was also birthday cake! Preston's roommates joined us for the big dinner, which was great. While I did take some pics at the reunion, each picture has someone taking a big bite or pizza or something that makes them not quite blog worthy, but I've got them:) Here are a few blog worthy pictures:
Our family outside of the student union building.
Just the kiddos.
John and Carol.
Sunday morning John and Carol took Lillie and Hansen for a tour of the campus while Hansen took pictures with his black and white film camera. I'm sure there are some great pictures just waiting to be developed on that roll.

Last night was pumpkin carving night at our house.
Measuring, planning, and gutting pumpkins.
Lillie's Harry Potter pumpkin.
And Hansen's pumpkin is the Deathly Hollows. Yup, Harry Potter around this season.

See you tomorrow.

Time to go back...

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday was Back To The Future day in case you didn't know. And if you didn't know, you may not know why either. Well, yesterday was the day that Marty and the Doc time traveled to in the second Back To The Future movie. The kids treated it like a holiday.
In the morning I just know I saw Marty in front of his DeLorean! Or was it Lillie in front of my Hyundai? I'd say it was nice of Hansen to give Lillie his Back To The Future t-shirt! In the movie Marty was just amazed to read that the Cubs win the World Series, well that's not going to happen this year, but it has been fun to see the Cubs keeping the dream alive through game time yesterday...when that dream ended.
You know it is serious when Lillie makes fingernail art to match. Oct 21st and even the Flex Capacitor! Yes we watched Back To The Future last night, and afterwards I hope Lillie was able to turn back the clock and actually get some sleep:)

See you tomorrow.

And the dance.

Good evening, it is Sunday.

As you saw in the last post, Thursday evening was the Homecoming football game. That means that the dance was Saturday. And yes, Hansen went to the dance.
Hansen went to the dance with Rebecca. How handsome are they? Very Handsome!
Uh, how does this corsage thingy work? No worries Hansen, when I was exactly your age and the waiter asked how I wanted my steak, I said,"Uh...on a plate?" Doh!
Rebecca's little brother is photobombing this picture with style! I think everyone had a great time this Homecoming. Maren, Lillie, and I even went out to dinner as we waited to drive these two around from dinner to the dance. The minivan makes a pretty awesome limousine if you ask me.
Speaking of awesome, Lillie's latest project was to make her own candles. She melted wax along with a crayon to pour into a jar to make a very fancy candle.
This candle will have another layer yet, once dry the wax is a nice layer to stack another layer. Nice going Lillie!

See you tomorrow.

The game ball.

Good morning, it it Friday!

Last night was without a doubt the most thrilling high school football game I've ever witnessed. KL's homecoming game against Tahoma started off rough, we were behind 0-21 after seven minutes! It looked like it was going to be a long night on the field. But an onside kick and a punt recovery brought the Falcons right back for halftime. With two minutes left KL finally took the lead, but with two seconds left Tahoma kicked a field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Bears got the ball first, but KL blocked their field goal attempt. Amazing! Then KL kicked one in themselves for the victory! Way to go KL!
Per tradition, the Cross Country team carries a game ball from school to the field. About a 10 mile run. Hansen is about half way back in this photo.
And here they are, the XC team on the track with the game ball.
Here is a band picture for Preston. The band director did one of the coolest things I've ever seen for a halftime type show, and maybe it was done every year and I just don't remember. He got the band ready to play while staged on the track. When he lifted his baton to signal, every band member with their instruments started running all over the field. Then when they stopped running all around, they were in this perfect KL formation. Fun.

So what else has been going on? I had a nice birthday! Thanks everyone for the nice birthday wishes. Preston came home from college for the weekend which was a nice treat for all of us. Preston and I played some tennis, we had a family birthday party, then Maren and I went out to the theatre while the kids stayed home and played video games and caught up.
Speaking of video games, Preston was hoping I'd send him the connectors for the old Nintendo Game Cube so they could do some retro (retro for his age that is) gaming while at college. I got them out to snap a picture to make sure they were the right ones, and the cat promptly sat right on them! I guess I covered his spot or something.

See you tomorrow.

Good evening, it is Friday.

Here is the text I sent to Preston yesterday:

Lillie and Maren are singing "Santa's coming tonight, tonight! Santa's coming tonight!" Only instead of singing "Santa", They're singing "Preston"!

And last weekend Maren asked Lillie, "Do you know what next weekend is?" And Lillie shouted,"Preston is coming home! Preston is coming home!" Then I said, "True, but it is my birthday." Lillie replied,"Oh really? Sorry dad..."

Yup, Preston is home for the weekend. We went out for our family birthday dinner and will surly have a fun weekend. I will drive Preston and Nick back to college Sunday afternoon.
The Rock was a very good dinner for sure.

This evening Preston and Lillie were playing on the "Get Peanutized" website where you make a Peanuts character to look like you. They made ones of all of us and I snapped pictures:

Can you tell who is who? Here is a hint, they may be in order from old to young.

See you tomorrow.

Good evening, it is Tuesday.

Lately Lillie has taken her nail art to a whole new level. The world of social media. It is pretty amazing really. She creates amazing nail art, photographs it, then posts it for anyone to enjoy.
Here is just a sneak peak of Lillie's nail art. If you want to see the rest of her cool creations, go to Instagram and follow her page. And no, I am not the nail art model:)

See you tomorrow.

Opening Night!

Good morning, it is Monday.

Over the weekend Maren and I got to attend a Hockey game! Opening night for the Seattle Thunderbirds! They play at the ShowWare center in Kent, so getting there is no big deal. We even at at The Ram with Judy before the match.
We had pretty good seats for sure. I'd say there are no bad seats in the stadium. Well, maybe the front row! Those folks get their world rocked with player body checks and booms of the sticks. Hockey is definitely a game of violence for the sake of violence. Or maybe intimidation. Whatever, the puck is gone when the slamming takes place.
Nice picture of Judy and Maren. Sorry I had to photobomb this shot! The Thunderbirds are basically a high school select team that pulls most of its players from Canada. These kids must really think they have a chance to make it to the big times (about 20% of them do) because they leave their families, live in local's homes, and attend the local high schools with a small stipend to put gas in their cars. Amazing really, not so sure I approve of centering this type of fan base around young kids, but hey, we did see some good hockey as the T-birds won 4-1.

See you tomorrow
