Carnival, Friends, and The Relay. Post 2.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

The GL carnival was a ton of fun, but that was in the last post. This post is more about Hansen's friends and The Relay For Life. Which is still going on. I will be picking Hansen up in a couple of hours.
Hansen has been fund raising over the last few weeks along with a group of great friends to support one of their friend's mom who has been battling cancer. The kids have been getting together to make banners, cars, and generally support each other.
Hansen and Nick made a Nemo car for the races. It turned out awesome, and even had the one flipper. They [Hansen and Nick] were not too fond of the paint finish and chose to call it Demo.
At 10:00pm there was a luminary ceremony. Maren and I were able to attend. These little luminary bags with messages were outlining the entire track. As in every foot for 400 yards. Each with different stories. Amazing. Just a couple of hours before this ceremony was to take place, the team learned that Linda [who they were walking in honor of] lost her battle with cancer. While they were all walking. Her two daughters left for a while to be with family, then came back and were with friends and family for the rest of the evening. Many people from her family and church were there to show support during this time as well.
At 6:00am the team of high schoolers were up and walking. I couldn't be prouder of Hansen and the whole team. The way they supported their friend and her family during this enormously difficult time is beautiful. Our prayers are with the Toycen family.

See you tomorrow.

I am so sorry to hear about Linda. What an incredibly sad and memorable night.

I was team captain for Relay for Life many years back and one of our teammates (who also had melanoma) passed away not long after. I'll never forget the time we spent together around that track.
