Merry, Merry, Merry!

Good afternoon, it is Saturday.

Hope you had a very merry Christmas! I'd like to think that we did. If you can judge you day by whether or not you ever changed out of your sweats, and never changing out of your sweats is a good thing, then we had a great Christmas Day. Christmas Eve was also great. Our first Christmas Eve at John and Carol's new house. When we wanted a frisbee to burn off some energy, we were able to simply walk to our house. Awesome. I have pics from Christmas and from before. Enjoy:
Santa! We got to visit Santa. This is the picture the professionals took of our family. Cheese! Now it is off to Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Then back to a day or two before. Non-orderly, but works for me.
Cheers! How about a Christmas toast. Jack and I have an ability to spill juice all over ourselves!
Avery joined Preston, Lillie, and I for some frisbee. How cute is she? Yes, that is Lillie's old Christmas dress. The high top sneakers are all about function.
This year we tried something new. Maybe even started a new tradition. Rather than a gift exchange for the adults, we did a white elephant exchange for everyone. This year's theme, mugs. Not wanting to see tears, this years there just wasn't much in the way of steals. Jack drew number two, and unwrapped the best Star Wars mug of all. Then he hid it and made sure no one could look at it, yet alone steal. We had fun, I hope we do it again next year. In true white elephant fashion, Lillie did steal the Grumpy Cat mug from Chris. It read, "I had fun once, it was awful!"
Yes, there were presents. The focus was kids, it was very nice.
Here Hansen and Lillie prepare to light tons of candles as acolytes at the candle light Christmas Eve Service. Preston and I were communion assistants. I was happy to help, the candle light Christmas Eve Service is always very nice.
What/who is this? Oh yes, Miles and a Star Wars mask. We loved having our North Carolina cousins visit and stay the night at our house for a night before moving on to the rest of their vacation.
I took them out out see Star Wars in 3D! Sure, we saw the movie twice, but it was well worth it. Is this the Breakfast Club gang? In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definition...these are cousins. The theater for the 3D show was amazing, leather recliner sofa seats! Even without a movie it would have been a great place to hang out.
The next day I got to take the cousins out for a shopping adventure before dropping them off. Lillie and Miles now have these awesome Star Wars build-a-bears! The rest got cool things too. Hansen chose Harry Potter, Alex chose Zelda, and Claire chose Velociraptors! Awesome.
Cookies! Lillie can transform her nail art to cookies. These look too good to eat.
This day is being spent with a puzzle! Thanks Amber!

See you tomorrow.

Vacation, Cousins, and Star Wars.

Good evening, it is Sunday.

Winter break is here! Well, for some, but not all. Preston has been home for a whole week now. Friday was the last day of school the littles and I. Maren still has some work this week before having some time off for the the holidays.

What did we do to celebrate the last day of school? We did what 20,000,000 other folks did this weekend. We saw Star Wars, The Force Awakens.
We were with a group of friend, some who dressed up. Preston wore his awesome Jedi attire.
Afterwards we went out for pizza. It was a great evening. I was a bit skeptical of the movie as it got going, but I was won over by the end. It was fun to hear the audience cheer as the movie started and as the famous actors came on screen. Awesome.
Santa! Yes, we showed up so early to the movie that were were able to take advantage of the short line to see Santa! We have seen this same Santa (he is the real Santa) for several years now. This little excursion made this whole evening awesome.
Yesterday we got to see cousins! We have not seen the Omans for over a year as they moved two years ago. This is Lillie with cousins Claire and Kyra. It was a great visit, and we're sure to see even more of them in the next few days. Yay!
Hansen and his cousin Alex. While I have these few pictures, the best pictures are on the kid's cameras. I will admit with cameras in everyone's pockets, and kids who are quite artistic, great photos are living on their cameras right now.
Hah! Yes, Maren read that this movie will soon be in the works. It will be next on my queue once it is released.

See you tomorrow.

On The List!

Good evening, it is Saturday.

Last week Maren got to attend a celebration of service. A what? A program celebrating folks who have worked for the KCLS for 20, 25, 30 or even 40 years! Maren was honored as one of the newbies of this list. Congrats on 20 years working at KCLS Maren.
For some reason Maren didn't really want the rest of us cheering her on for this ceremony. But she did promise to take a picture or two. This is the room!
And this is a Maren selfie! 20 years working for KCLS, no problem! Somehow I'm thinking retirement will keep her from celebrating 40 years, or even 35.
A friend of Maren's took this picture. This is the list of folks who were celebrated for their service. The print is just blurry enough to protect the identities of those on the list:)

See you tomorrow.

Look Who's Driving!

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Guess who passed their driver's test and will have his driver license ready for him shortly after the new year:
Yup, the kid parallel parking my silver Hyundai like a boss. Way to go Hansen! Times have changed in the world of getting a driver license. Now you must take an expensive driver class (if you don't simply wait to be 18 years of age) outside of school. But one cool thing to come of it is that you can test at the school rather than at the DMV. And you can test anytime after successfully completing the class. So Hansen waits for his birthday and his permit to be 6 months old. He should have his license around Maren's birthday.
Last night Maren and I, along with John and Carol headed to the 5th Ave to see The Sound Of Music. I must admit, other than the cast of the movie being untoppable, I may have liked the play even more. May have to watch the movie again one of these days just for fun.

This evening I will drive Preston and his roommates back to college. Then in a short three weeks the kids will all be back for winter vacation.
I think all the kids can use a little sleep, the Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros marathons have been going way beyond just the wee hours of the night. Maybe that is why the Wii is so named? Hmm.

See you tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! We sure did. Preston came home on Tuesday and since then the kids have all been staying up super late having a great time!
Preston has gone and done a few things with friends on his break, but these three are getting plenty of fun in.
Thanksgiving day was spent at Mel and Court's house. Thanks for hosting, it was great! This is the kid table. Yup, that's grandpa crashing the kid table. Of course football was on the TV and Apples to Apples was the game of choice. Court's family was fun to spend time with for sure.
Jack gave messages with this cool machine. It is like an industrial sander, only a massager! Preston got the first massage, I mean, college is hard stuff right? Maren and I invited Preston to come to early morning boot camp with us Thanksgiving morning. Yeah, boot camp. I think I needed the most help.
The Seattle Center. We didn't spent much time in Seattle yesterday, but we did make it to the Science Center to see The Mocking Jay II on the big IMAX screen. The movie is just plain brutal really.

Two more days of Thanksgiving break! Enjoy.

See you tomorrow.

Good evening, it is Sunday.

Check out this picture Preston sent me:
Yes, Preston got a hole-in-one while frolfing! A HOLE-IN-ONE! Connor posted on their frolf page that this was 4 holes out of retirement. Ha. This must have been the first time they have gone frolfing [in Bellingham] since they started college. I can tell you that for me a hole-in-one in regular golf would be easier than one in frolf because I have never seen frolf hole that I can actually reach in one shot. Usually I have a long third toss and pars are like once a day. Pretty cool Preston!
I went to the driving range the other evening. This is what freezing cold night golf looks like. I must admit all the boot camp classes that Maren and I have been attending has really helped my golf swing.
Hansen and I snuck out to the archery range yesterday. I snapped this photo of Hansen, but really it was Hansen taking tons of photos of me. Well, kind of me, more like my bow. He was working on a photograhpy assignment where he was trying to get a silhouette of the arrow flying out of my bow. He got some cool pics for sure. The sunny days here are beautiful for sure, but they sure are cold! It has not been above the mid 40's for a few days here.
Is it Christmas time already? The stores think so. As do the advertisements. And the radio stations. It must be! I did bring in the Christmas decorations in today, but the tree wont go up till Preston's home for Thanksgiving break. In this picture is Maren and her friend Judy. We went to see the Seattle Thunderbirds last night play against the Portland Winterhawks. Seattle won, and after every goal the world chanted my favorite chant ever, "Portland Sucks! Portland Sucks! Portland Sucks!" It is just so wrong. And so right. At the same time.

See you tomorrow.

XC Banquet.

Good evening, it is Wednesday.

This evening was a skipping tennis kind of evening. I got to attend the KL Cross Country season end banquet. I always enjoy this banquet as I look back at my own Cross Country days with fond memories.
Here is Hansen receiving his certificate from the coach. On stage are the sophomores who came to the banquet. This was one of the bigger teams in KLCC history. Over 40 runners!
Hansen was awarded Most Inspirational by his peers! I am so impressed with Hansen and his friends. It is a great group of kids and Hansen is right there leading the way. I was a pretty talented runner and enjoyed my friends, but looking back, where I really fell short is where Hansen is the strongest. And Lillie and Preston too. I am amazed that these kiddos are just such great humans! They must get that from their mom:)

Congrats on a great Cross Country season Hansen!

See you tomorrow.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Those of you who don't follow Lillie on Instagram, here is her latest nail art:
I do hope that through the power of social media, and generation of youth who are generally a very caring lot, that the world becomes a more peaceful place.

See you tomorrow.

Go Vikings?

Good evening, it is Friday.

Today Lillie got to go to the University of Washington with her history class to do some research. Sounds like it may have been a wild goose chase of sorts, but a fun day at the U of W is never a bad thing! I wrote, "Go Huskies" on her lunch, and when dropping her off for the bus I said again, "Go Huskies!" Do you know what she replied? Yup, "Go Vikings!" Yup, she said, "Preston is a Viking! so Go Vikings!"
I asked Lillie to take a couple of pics from the UW. Hi!
Lillie got to study in the Graduate Reading Room, one of the coolest and most intimidating rooms anywhere. Only intimidating because you have to be really smart to be studying in this was always way too quiet for me. Hmm.
Picking up Lillie from school today it was a bit rainy. Just walking from school to the parking lot in this deluge she ended up soaking's that for a photo op?

See you tomorrow.

A Veterans Day Burger.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

I hope everyone had a nice Veterans Day! For me it was sleeping in, archery with Hansen, Grilling burgers with John, Carol, and the family, followed by tennis league (moved up to court 4!), and lastly homework with Lillie.
Hansen sporting what may be the best burger ever created in this house! Double bacon cheese burger! The first thing John did when he showed up was to show us the nice text he got from Preston for Veterans Day. Hi Preston (:
This is not Lillie's homework, but may be the reason she was running out of time and asked for my help. This is The Oregon Trail game. It looks about the same as it did when Maren and I were her age. Her teacher showed this to her class and now she is hooked. It was fun to listen to her and Hansen Oregon Trailing it last night.

See you tomorrow.

Good evening, it is Sunday.

This weekend we helped out with the HOME project at a local church. We have been volunteering with HOME through our church for the last several years. Basically we pack lunches and serve dinner to homeless men that participate in the program. The last few years the five of us help along with John, Carol, and sometimes Stef. This year John and Carol were out of town and Preston is off at college. I am pretty used to having Preston off at school and wouldn't wish him anywhere else than having fun (and maybe learning?) at WWU, but I really did miss him this evening. Not to worry, the four of us did a super job!
Lillie and Hansen making sandwiches while Maren and I fix the salad and set up the serving table. Our church will host HOME for the entire month of November. There is a big sign up sheet at our church along with pictures of the groups that serve. I was about to show a picture of the board as it is pretty cool, but there are phone numbers and such on it so I figured it was not blog worthy. Although John and Carol were not able to serve with us, they have already volunteered and are signed up to volunteer again!

See you tomorrow.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Last night Hansen was inducted into the Kentlake Honor Society! Congratulations Hansen!
This is the nifty certificate that Hansen was awarded. All that hard work is paying off! And I know he works hard and has hard classes as well. I work in a couple of math classes at school, but Hansen's math is way too advanced for me! Boggles my mind.
Updated 11/5/15. Maren sent me this picture of Hansen receiving his award!
Lillie had a fun Halloween themed band concert the other day. This is a pano photo of the whole group. Kids were allowed to dress up in costume and there were some pretty fancy costumes for sure. The band director even dressed up in a very fancy conductor costume.
After the show I was able to snap this pic of Lillie. Yes, she is a Blossom, of the Powerpuff Girls. Here is what Cartoon Network has to say about her: Blossom is the leader of the Powerpuff Girls. Like her fiery red hair, Blossom is strong and determined, but she's also methodical and thinks things through. I'd say this works for Lillie too:)
We had a totally drenched Halloween in these parts. That led to very few trick or treats being given out. The kids who did dare to knock on our door left with fist fulls of candy!

In other news, I finally moved up from court 6 in my tennis league to court 5! Hopefully I can stay on court 5 for a bit or move to court 4 before heading back to my old hang out court 6. Maren and I have regularly been attending a boot camp fitness class together. I can totally tell a difference in my strength! It's been a nice change for sure. Sorry, no pictures of Maren and I at boot camp.

See you tomorrow.

Family weekend.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Last weekend was family weekend at WWU. So we all loaded up in the minivan and made the trip to visit Preston. John and Carol came with us and we had a mini family reunion with cousins who also attend WWU. Two of Maren's cousins have kids at WWU, so three students from one extended family, that's pretty cool. It was also Mae's 89th birthday so besides tons of pizza, there was also birthday cake! Preston's roommates joined us for the big dinner, which was great. While I did take some pics at the reunion, each picture has someone taking a big bite or pizza or something that makes them not quite blog worthy, but I've got them:) Here are a few blog worthy pictures:
Our family outside of the student union building.
Just the kiddos.
John and Carol.
Sunday morning John and Carol took Lillie and Hansen for a tour of the campus while Hansen took pictures with his black and white film camera. I'm sure there are some great pictures just waiting to be developed on that roll.

Last night was pumpkin carving night at our house.
Measuring, planning, and gutting pumpkins.
Lillie's Harry Potter pumpkin.
And Hansen's pumpkin is the Deathly Hollows. Yup, Harry Potter around this season.

See you tomorrow.
