A First!

Good evening, it is Tuesday.

We just got back from a long awaited adventure.  And adventure you ask?  Yes, to a destination even more crowded than Disneyland over spring break.  Where you ask?  Trader Joe's.  That's right, today the Kent Trader Joe's opened.  And we were there.
Kent/Covington has had rumors of a Trader Joe's for years.  I have been in the Burien Trader Joe's exactly two times over the years, but now we have one in Kent.  One thing I discovered while looking over all the shoulders lining all the isles today...you can buy chocolate covered anything here!

See you tomorrow.

A Great Shot.

Good evening, it is Tuesday.

Unlike the rain we have seen for the last couple of days, the weekend was nice weather.  The days are getting shorter and fall is in the air, but the sunshine is still wonderful.

I Took Hansen to the archery range for the first time in awhile.  Lately all his time is taken up with school and cross country.  Not only did we do some shooting, but Hansen tackled a school assignment as well.
Setting up his tripod and camera for a self portrait in his photography class.
Hansen would then set a 25 second timer and snap a picture of himself shooting over the camera to a target 70 yards away.  We were the only ones there so we didn't have to worry about getting other archers to participate.
This is the finished product.  Hansen loves using gray scale.  He can really make the details pop.  I use small photos on this blog, but with his full size photo the details are very cool.  I also like the color version a lot, but I think the sharpness of the colors are hard for Hansen to see.

See you tomorrow.

AAAWWWWW!!!

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Happy Birthday Amber!  Today is my sister Amber's birthday, but the pictures I've got to share are pictures from Preston's family birthday party.
Preston started his party with a nap.  Until some of the party goers decided to pile on.
Then is was present time!
Piano time!  The twins do like their Frozen music.  Avery was sharing some great new cover songs.  My favorite was, "Got To Go!  Got To Go!  Can't keep it in anymore!"
After a while they found me.  Help!  Nah, fun just bounces around these munchkins.  I was trying to watch the Seahawks game, but some how I ended up looking at cute cats on my phone.  Every picture these three would loudly go, "AAAWWWWW!!!"  It was fun for exactly 32 seconds, then it was horrible:)
Hansen did make it back for the family party.  A friend who was in Oregon for the cross country meet sent me this picture.  Go Hansen!
The start of Hansen's race!  Maybe I will run in the open run next year, looks very fun!

We had a great birthday weekend around here, hope the wave of fun travels down to Texas for Amber to enjoy.

See you tomorrow.

Birthday Scramble.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday we held Preston's birthday golf bash.  Two teams out for some golf fun.  After a blind draw, I had Connor and Nick on my team and Preston had Josh and Malcolm on his.  Scramble format.  Three drives and three second shots from each player.  KP on all 3 pars.  Two long drive holes.  Perfect.
Call Me Tiger.  That was our team name.  Nick and Connor golfed without shoes.  These guys were fun to golf with for sure.  Starting the second nine Connor had not counted a single drive or second shot while Nick and I were done.  But somehow we got them all in.  Heck, Connor even won a carryover KP!
The Calming Malcolm.  Yes, even staying calm as the Call Me Tiger kids try to destroy their team picture.  The Calming Malcolms got off to a rough start as their name sake arrived at the wrong golf course, but their calming ways carried them on.  Not on to victory, but very close.  They had great shot after great shot.  The Call Me Tiger gang may have had an ex-golf professional on their team who luckily didn't completely buckle under the pressure of his partner's golf balls landing in parking lots, ponds, and wooded areas.
Here we all are joined up for a few moments on hole number nine.  The first nine holes were very slow, but the back nine picked up nicely.

After golf it was back to our house for pizza, cake, ice-cream and prizes.  I had picked up a plethora of wonderful prizes from the thrift shop:
Yes, that is a Fred Couples bobble head dude.  Of course, I dropped and destroyed the fish trophy on the way out the the back yard, but it was all good.  I also had SpongeBob golf balls for all KP and long drive winners.  Very fun!  And a special shout out to Maren who not only had our house in tip top shape, but also pizza on the ready!

See you tomorrow.

Winner!

Good morning, it is Saturday.

In just a bit I will be waking up Preston for his birthday golf tournament.  Last night I went to Value Village to pick up some great prizes!  But who can talk to the future...so back to yesterday.
What do you do when you turn 18?  That's right, you spend your own money buying lottery tickets!  Preston's first try was a loser, his second try broke even.  Thankfully he was happy with his break even winning!  Lillie was begging him to feed it back into the machine.  Glad she is not 18 just yet!
Before the lottery fun, it was out to eat at a very yummy Italian restaurant.  Preston did end up ordering the calzone that his finger landed on for this picture.  Besides the great food, we had bad pictures.  Here are a couple of the best:

No, I don't need to caption these pictures!  And yes, they were the best.  I don't know how Lillie can take five dozen pictures in 3 seconds, but she can.  A fun birthday dinner was had by all.  And no, Hansen was not there because he is in Oregon with his high school's  cross country team.
Hansen is on the left.  If you have not seen him with short hair in a while, you may not know that.  He is running a mud challenge style course right now!  He will be back in time for the family party on Sunday.

See you tomorrow.

Eighteen!

Good morning, it is Friday.

Happy Birthday Preston!  Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston!  Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston! Happy Birthday Preston!

Eighteen Happy Birthdays!
This is a senior picture of Preston.  Coat on his back, luggage under his arm.  This kid (who is no longer a kid) is going great places for sure!
This is Preston at age one!  From this seat I can tell you that time has flown.  From behind that camera I couldn't ever imagine this day.  Have a great birthday Preston!

P.S.  At age one, you wouldn't let shoes touch you feet!  You did allow one pair of boots and one pair of sneakers, and those wouldn't come along for a few more weeks.  Now today...this kid does like his shoes:)

See you tomorrow.

Is that a caffeine molecule?

Good evening, it is Thursday.

Lillie and I just got back from curriculum night at Lillie's school.  Last night Maren and I were at the high school for Preston and Hansen's curriculum night.  Yesterday was also a cross country meet for Hansen.  Right now Preston is at his school's football game.  To say the least, we've been busy.  Some how we even found a few minutes to get Hansen a haircut:
Hansen with short hair!  The stylist said, "Are  you sure you really want to cut off all this hair?"  Uh.  Yup.

Looking good!

See you tomorrow.

Captain Who?

Good evening, it is Thursday.

Sunday we got to hang out with good friends to remember Larry.  Backyard golf style.
We had a couple of golf groups.  Here are the boys.
And here are the girls.  Along with Captain Underpants???
Mick's backyard golf course has tons of cool artwork to golf around.  Besides the great folks and fun golf, we all ate very well!  Larry did enjoy good food and fun golf!
We all had a very nice time, even the non-golfers!

See you tomorrow.

So your heart don't palpate...

Good evening, it is Saturday.

Today was the Fair!  For most of us.  Preston had a better offer (I think he is at a bonfire with friends) and Maren is a bit under the weather (she slept the day away on the couch), so it was just the littles and I.  And that didn't even last long as Hansen met up with a friend there.  So it was a dad/Lillie day!
The Washington State Fair!  It used to be called the Puyallup Fair!  Remember that slogan, "you can do it at a trot, you can do it at a gallop, you can do it real slow so your heart don't palpate...just don't be late...do the Puyallup!"
Llamas!
Cows.  Back in the stroller, Back it the stroller!  Some of you will know that reference:)
Bling!
And rides!  Luckily we found Hansen just in time so I didn't have to ride the rides with Lillie.  Thanks Hansen!  This was the first time in years that we went to the fair without the Omans:(
Here is a throwback picture for you.  Today whenever I saw anyone carrying some ginormous prize, I just shook my head.
This morning we had professional pictures taken at the church.  These were for the directory, but we may have purchased some extras for this year's Christmas cards.  Now I just need to brainstorm a letter.

See you tomorrow.

Yee Haw!

Good morning, it is Tuesday.
Yesterday Lillie started dance class again.  Yay!  She took a couple of years off dance, but decided that a lyrical class would be just right.  I can't say I watched the TV show, but this outfit reminded me of a Solid Gold Dancer?
Just one week left of the pool for the year.  Once the pool shuts down for the summer, there is no denying summer is over.  Sunday Lillie and Emma got to spend a bit of time swimming!
Another sign of summer ending?  Sunday School Round-up.  Sure, dumbest name for an event ever, but fun none the less.  Preston and Malcolm rounding up something...
Here is a fun picture of Preston.  Enjoying a little wind on a warm day.  Of course it is raining this morning, but I forecast another nice weekend.

See you tomorrow.

What's Old?

Good evening, it is Saturday.

Hang on, I've got lots to share:
Yes, this is the inside of an airplane.
And Preston is the co-pilot.  For the Labor Day weekend Preston was invited by his buddy to fly to Idaho for a short vacation a long way away.  He had a great time!
Small planes are an interesting thing to me.  This plane treated them great, and it is 50 years older than the cars we drive.  Crazy!
Speaking of old things, Hansen is modeling an old film camera that belonged to Maren's Uncle Brian.  Hansen is taking a photography class this year and old film cameras are encouraged!  Can't wait to see some of the photos that this camera takes and Hansen develops in the school's dark room.
And maybe even older than the camera is Lillie's new sewing machine!  Lillie's newish sewing machine broke and John and Carol's neighbor (once was a sewing machine repair person) found this oldie and got it working for Lillie.  How cool is that?  Metal gears rather than plastic, this will probably work as long as Lillie wants it to.  And yes, this sewing machine is living on the desk I made back in high school!
Hansen ran in his first cross country race today.  This was one of the coolest relay races I've seen.  Over 30 teams running this course.  I really enjoyed watching the start.
Yup, the racers have to run/splash/wade through about 100 yards of beach front water that is waist high at the deepest part.  Hansen said the water was a great relief after a couple of grueling miles.
This race was so big that King 5 was there filming!  I will have to watch the news later!
Nice going Hansen!
Preston's 18th birthday is just around the corner.  We gave him his birthday present just a little early as he is taking a guitar class at school.  This is one musical kiddo!
Today I went on a bike ride with my friend Jim.  I've turned a new leaf and am putting fitness back on the front burner thanks to a free eight week class with a fitness coach!  After the ride Jim and I stopped for a beer.  But it was too hot for a beer and we were on a time crunch, so how about an old school soda?  Green River.  Yum!

See you tomorrow.
