Gray 29. Yes, Seattle crushes it!

Good evening, it is Wednesday.

I like to come home from work and relax for a few minutes as the kids get home from school.  And usually I flip on the TV and watch my two favorite sports talk shows, PTI and Around The Horn.  Well, just like the rest of all the media, it is all Superbowl (and some Miami Heat) all the time.  It has even spilled into the other medias, well probably because our team in in the big game.
The Seattle Times likes to have little banners and such as cut-outs in the daily papers.  Yesterday's was a fortune teller.  Yes, the options are fair to the other team, but I can tell you from playing it several times...guess Gray 29!
Preston is still receiving tons of mail from random colleges as it is almost time to be making such decisions.  I think he has got a favorite five or so, but who knows what the next year will bring.  Aunt Susanna, check out this university!
Hansen spent his birthday money!  A new release for his archery (we will also be updating his arrows and sight) and a necklace.  Not just any necklace, can you science and coffee buffs figure out what he is wearing?  Yup, that is a caffeine molecule.
This is the picture I texted to Preston today during school.  Yeah, I know, Preston probably shouldn't be texting during school, but I sent it anyway.  His awesome Seattle Sonic colored Vans have been hanging around the house, so I wore them to school.  They also happen to be my high school colors.  I can honestly say that the elementary school kids really liked these on me.
Who didn't watch the State of the Union address last night?  I know, I see a lot of hands up about now.  We watched it, and followed along on Twitter.  But that's not why I had to take this picture... just look at the ties, I'm seeing Seahawks colors!

See you tomorrow.

Thumb Wars?

Good morning, it is Monday.

But a good Monday.  No school today and Maren comes home tonight.  The only hiccup is a dentist appointment for Hansen in a few hours, but I'm guessing that will be good too.  So, what have we been doing over the last few days?  Among other things, we've been eating very well, or very poorly, depending on how you look at it.
Saturday I took the kids shoe shopping.  Can you guess who got which?  From L to R...Hansen, Preston, Lillie, Lillie.  We do seem to go shoe shopping every six months...when Maren is out of town.  We also had a nice lunch at Taco Time.
Sunday started at church.  Carol and Stef leave on Friday to Nicaragua with the Corner Of Love Mission Team to provide medical help in the area.  Their trip was "commissioned" at church Sunday.  There they are, right in the middle of page one.
Instead of Sunday School, we had a birthday mix and mingle.  Old and young people joined the table of their birthday month.  Then there was a Pictionary type game to play.  Yes, us October birthday folks can do this type of game:)
Then out to lunch with cousins at Ihop.  Hmm, who has the cuter smile?
We had two nearby tables and slightly different arrival times, but with just a little stress, the Ihop folks got us all seated and fed very nicely.  This place is busy on a Sunday morning!
Cheese!  Then thumb wars.  Then disappearing under the table and dashing back to the other table.
Maren is not missing out on any fun on her side of the country!  Check out the lovely view from her Philadelphia hotel room.  Yeah, miserable photos of freezing city sprawl are just a ruse.
Fancy desserts, meeting authors, and talking books with other book lovers is more like it I'm sure.

See you tomorrow.

Have you seen the cat?

Good evening, it is Friday.

This morning at way too early o'clock, I drove Maren to the airport.  She is now in Philadelphia for the ALA conference.  Committee work, meeting authors, hanging with friends, meeting new librarians, fancy dinners, and staying in a fancy hotel.  That is what her weekend will look like.  She gets home Monday evening.  Several years ago these weekends were much more work for me than they are now.  When the kids were little, it was much harder than today.  This evening we have just been watching movies (Harry Potter, Oz The Great and Powerful, and Back To The Future) while eating pizza and having smoothies.  But the dishes wait for no one, and I will be doing that before heading to bed.
The cat really wanted to go to Philadelphia with Maren.  I was all for it!  Hey Lillie, Have you seen Joe lately?
I checked on the weather in Philadelphia around 4:30 today.  Yeah, Maren went to a cold world for sure!  I asked Maren to take some pics, you know, of like the stairs that Rocky ran up, or maybe the Liberty Bell.  But I'm thinking I will be lucky to get selfies of Maren freezing to death.

See you tomorrow.

A Fabulous Day.

Good evening, it is Sunday.

I'm hoping Maren had a nice birthday weekend!  Sunday we hung out and watched the Seahawks beat the 49ers in crazy fashion.  What a game huh?  Off to the Superbowl.  Today we took Maren out to the Golden Peacock and had a Coldstone birthday cake.  Yahoo!
Check out this styling Maren!  Seahawks and Coldstone for the birthday win!  Hi Lillie:)
The top of that birthday cake had some fancy pink writing on it.
This was my fortune from Golden Peacock.  Maren and Hansen ended up with the exact same fortune...and it may not have been meant for either of them.  It read, "You will take part in a social activity."  We did have fun remembering that you should always add, "on the toilet" to the end of you fortune!  While there we ran into Maren's cousin Amy and her family, how crazy is that?  Before dinner Maren got to just hang out all day at home...reading and relaxing.  A perfect day for her.  I went golfing with a friend down at Riverbend in Kent.  I totally feel like I stole a wonderful spring day.  The sun was out and it was in the upper 40's.  The course was in great shape and I played one of my best rounds in a very long time.
Larry (Maren's good friend Judy's husband) sent Maren a text on her birthday.  This just cracks me up.  This iPad has been good to Maren over the last few years.

See you tomorrow.

Happy Birthdays!

Good morning, it is Saturday!

Today we have two Happy Birthday's to celebrate.  Happy Birthday to my Maren and Happy Birthday to my Mom!  Da Da Da Da  Da Da!

Yesterday we had Maren's family party at John and Carol's house.  We all had lots of fun:
The cake!  Yes, we found a Go Hawks cake at Costco and couldn't let it pass.  The sloppy writing is mine, but it is the best because it personalizes this cake for Maren.  The 4th and 3...Punt part may just give you a hint to Maren's age.  Hmm.  It was Carol's idea...really:)
We all got to do some hanging out.  Yup, that's John in the background.
My view of this picture that Stef is taking.
What was on Stef's camera.  Nice photobombing!
Yes, we did have a show stopping performance of "Happy Birthday" sung by "Stef and the Gang".
What kind of homework is Preston working on?  Let's all jump on him and find out!
We had a long drive to John and Carol's due to construction and car crashes.  But check this out.  We were next to this wooden Hawk's carving for a while.  If I'm not mistaken, it is the Native American Raven Dance painted in Seahawks colors.  Later Maren saw this statue in a picture on a friend's FB update.  Crazy.

Last night Preston had a soccer game at 10:05 pm!  I will say that his team played the best team I've seen in the league (other than Preston's) and after a hard fought game with some amazing plays from Preston and crew, Preston's team won 7-6!  Very cool.

Today will be more partying!  Half off at Value Village for some.  Football for everyone!  Go Hawks!  And birthday birthday birthday!

See you tomorrow.

90 Seconds?

Good morning, what day is it?  What day is it?

Yesterday Lillie got to wake up early for a dentist appointment.  Oh joy!  I was feeling a bit pessimistic about this visit because my idea of brushing teeth for two minutes and Lillie's idea of brushing for two minutes seems to be at times about 90 seconds apart.  But great teeth may be in the genes as much as the care.  And Lillie has great teeth.  Her twelve year molars are on the way in, so I'm guessing she will "get" to spend her 6th grade year in braces.
Another picture for the No Cavity Club wall.  Yay!
Lillie and I swung by McDonald's for a quick breakfast on the way back to school.  Lillie just discovered that she really does like hashbrowns and orange juice.  McDonald's is surely a different place in the mornings.  Way to go Lillie!  And keep on flossing:)

See you tomorrow.

Mail!

Good evening, it is Monday.

Today was a great mail day for me.  Today may be a lame blog day for you.  I had ordered a few things from e-bay last week, and they finally came.  A new seat for our exerciser bicycle.  And a few new grips for my golf clubs.
Since I like golfing more than exercising, here are my 3-wood, hybrid, and SW with new grips.  Taylormade tour velvet grips.  They went on perfectly and as of today, I like them 100%.  That is saying something, because when it comes to golf stuff, I'm overly picky.  Now to get on the golf course!  Actually Preston, his friend Malcolm, and myself went golfing Saturday before the Seahawks game.  Kind of.  It rained and winded so hard that we quit after just two holes.  Two holes!  I've never been wetter on the golf course...sheets of rain and wind so hard no umbrella dared to open.  It actually wasn't even raining when we started.  It was like the storm in the movie Caddieshack.  Well, one time I may have been wetter.  My dad caddied for me one miserable day at a golf tournament in Tumwater where walking off the golf course was not an option.  Actually, I probably wasn't wetter that day, but my dad may have been.
The exerciser.  This is a before picture.  I don't even know how this happens.  I was going to just put this bike in the garage and let it get buried by stuff, but getting a new seat seemed like the much better and cheaper route as I would have wanted a replacement exerciser.  You know, new years resolutions and all.  In truth, I'm really the only one who moves the pedals on this bike, but it is well used.  I think it is Hansen's favorite spot when watching TV.
The after picture.  This could have been a before the before picture as well, so maybe it is just a now picture.

See you tomorrow.

Fantastic!

Good evening, it is Saturday.

Lillie brought this home from school the other day.  What you get to see is just the front cover of her Explorer Powerpoint Project.  She had to make a snazzy powerpoint presentation, then show it while giving an oral report too.  Every comment from the teacher is awesome.  "Great job reading tough names!"  If you could see the pages she read from, Lille took every hard name and made a phonetic name next to it so she would pronounce everything perfectly.  Another comment, "Fantastic.  Slow down, did you drink coffee?"  Too funny, Lillie can talk fast for sure!  And the last, and best, "Fantastic, best I've ever heard!"  How great is that?  Of course, both boys had this same teacher and did the same project, so you know it must have been fantastic.  By the way, WOF stand for Wall Of Fame.  Way to go Lillie!
What else is Fantastic?  The Seahawks just beat the Saints in today's play off game.  Sorry Susanna.  Well, not really:)
This is the picture that most folks around here have on their FB feeds.  Or 12th man.  Or some Seahawks thing.  You should see this region on Seahawk Fridays.  Blue everywhere!  I think the amount of money people spend to show how much they support the Seahawks is ridiculous.  $100.00 per jersey is crazy, but there they are.  Of course, I am enjoying all the hype and thrills of having a great team too.  Go Seahawks!

See you tomorrow.

Five Days Of Cake In A Row!

Good evening, it is Tuesday.

Just day two of "back to school" and I'm exhausted.  I've always said that it's not the first day back from break that's rough, it's the second.  And this rang true for me today.  I'm hoping tomorrow will be a bit smoother.  But that is just me, sounds like everyone else is happy to be back and adjusting just fine.

I have a few pictures that I never showed you from Hansen's actual birthday:
The cats have gotten to where they love to rest on little towels.  There was just a nice little towel folded on the counter in front of the cake and flowers...
Before cake, it was out to dinner.  We had a great dinner at Hansen's choice of restaurants.  Red Robin.  Really, one of the best dinners I've had there.  We got to sit in huge comfy seats and the food was great.  I only got this one shot of the crew as the worker person was telling us our table was ready and I couldn't get my camera to turn on.  I may have caused just a bit of embarrassment.  Who knows?
Make a wish!  Even with the rest of the family out of town, Hansen really wanted the biggest Costco chocolate cake for his birthday.  I was hoping he would like a small Coldstone cake or something, but he said cake every night was O.K. with him.  Yup, we have had cake every single night since the 3rd.  Just this evening the cake is finally gone, make that five days of cake in a row!
Now this is the way we get to see Hansen every day.  In his new gaming chair.  Game on.  Next birthday:  Maren!

See you tomorrow.

Happy Birthday/Anniversary!

Good morning, it is Friday.

Today's numbers are 14 and 23.  Happy 14th birthday Hansen!  Happy 23rd anniversary Maren!  So what will we doing to celebrate today?  Hansen is requesting dinner at Red Robin.  So Red Robin it will be.  I've got a few pictures for you today.  A couple from now, one from five years ago, and one from 22.5 years ago.
Yesterday, Maren with her anniversary flowers.
Check out this oldie.  I took a picture of this picture which is hanging on our stairway, that's why there is glare.  This picture of our families is from our wedding reception in John and Carol's back yard the summer after we eloped.
Hansen just a few minutes ago as Maren and I sung Happy Birthday to him...along with coffee in bed.
I decided to add this cute picture of Hansen from five years ago.  Similarities from 5 years ago to today?  Same bunk bed, Batman sheets vs. Batman t-shirt, and coffee!

See you tomorrow.

Happy New Years...and a Birthday Party too.

Good afternoon, it is Thursday.

I hope you had a fun and uneventful ringing in of 2014.  2014, wow!  I saw a picture on Facebook that read something like, "you still think a 1990 car is just 10 years old"  I know, right? We get a small break from Christmas to New Years, but then full swing again for Hansen's birthday and Maren and my wedding anniversary.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves...back to New Years:
I wanted to get a picture of Maren and Lillie as they dressed up nicely for ringing in the new year.  But I knew they would both be in jammies come midnight, and pictures would be frowned upon.  Here Lillie is helping Maren get "picture ready".
Da da dada!
The kids drinking a little sparkling cider to ring in the new years, then it was outside for some sparklers.
We almost gave up.  Two lighters, a ton of matches, and a second pack of sparklers and we finally got some sparklers to light.  We were not going to give up...
Yay!  Happy New Years!  Some of the neighbors were letting off what sounded like bombs.

After what seemed like a nap, it was time to celebrate Hansen's birthday.  We had our family party for Hansen yesterday.
The kids hanging on the couch with their cousins.
John made Hansen a coconut cheesecake for his birthday cake.  Yum.
Hansen did very well on his birthday.  Lots of money and candy.  And this jacket.  This is an Army jacket John wore in the 1950's.
John and Hansen.  How cool is it that this jacket is still around?

Today Maren and I went out to do a little shopping.  We even picked up flowers a day early, but you will have to wait till tomorrow to see that picture.

See you tomorrow.
