Happy 4th of July!

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Yesterday was a very standard 4th of July for us.  Of course, we wouldn't have a standard 4th of July if it wasn't a great 4th of July.  I haven't gone back to earlier years to check, but the posts may be similar to this one...I may check once I'm done posting this one.
Fireworks!  Yes we purchased plenty.  Of course, in our neighborhood there are so many fireworks going everywhere, buying fireworks is really just because we enjoy blowing them off.  The big shows were over the houses in other culd-e-sacks rather than in our own.  But of course, the neighbors across the island do enjoy lighting the occasional upside down fire work so no one sitting anywhere near ground level is ever actually safe.
Meeting up at John and Carol's house the girls put on their fancy red/white/blue eyelashes.
Then it was off to the parade!  It's not a long walk, and we've done it every year.  If you notice Preston walking gingerly with ipad in the back of the bunch, it is because we were streaming the World Cup!  It is funny how many folks think we should no longer be interested because the U.S.A. is out.  Au contraire...this is the biggest game in the world!  Preston is still very pleased with the teams going on.
The parade.  Sitting near Bison Creek Pizza like always.  This was the 93rd annual Burien 4th of July parade.  Probably Maren's 40th!
Old cars and trucks are fun to see.  The kids got so much candy!
While a great parade, it always cracks me up to see u-haul trucks pulling DJs.  It was a rocking good time.  Plenty of marching bands and dancing.  Stef even got to give Ronald McDonald a high five!
Preston gives the parade a thumbs up!
Back at home for dinner and fireworks.  All the littles in the neighborhood start the evening with smoke bombs and ground snakes.
Running through the smoke.
Lillie's baking the other day produced this amazing cake.  Every slice is a perfect red/white/blue flag cake!
How about a closer look.  Very cool!
We also celebrated Courtney's birthday.  Jack and Avery were not lighting much in the way of fireworks, but they did get to light the candles on this birthday cake.  Happy Birthday Courtney!
Getting to be time for the bigger booms.
Uh, this one is not too big.
Just like all the neighbors around the island, we had a whole row of chairs for viewing.
Getting dark out.  This year seemed much more crazy to me.  Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but I can tell you that it was so loud and booming that the new noise going on the whole evening was car alarms.  Yup, is sounded like this," phoomp, BOOM, beep beep bew wew wew" all evening long.  I tried to take a few pics of the sky totally filled with lights, but I couldn't get one to turn out well enough to post.

See you tomorrow!

Looks to me like the main difference is that Lillie was still a little girl last year! And that cake... awesome. Happy 4th of July weekend!!!
