The First Thing To Go?

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

How I didn't get a picture of anything yesterday is beyond me!  I am totally loosing my touch or something.  Or "something" may actually be my brain as yesterday we were so busy that my brain was one step behind.

When I got to work on my bicycle yesterday I realized that I couldn't lock it up because I forgot my keys at home.  Which meant that I locked my keys in the house, which meant that I would not be able to get my car after work to pick up Hansen for track and on and on.  After some deep breathing exercizes, I decided to ride home for my lunch break and see if one of my neighbors (who we keep a key with) was home.  And to my total luck, they were!

So after work I was able to get Hansen to his first track meet of the season (where was my camera?) and meet Maren at the field (John also showed up to hang with Maren and cheer on Hansen) so then I could take off quickly to pick up Lillie from Girl Scouts and take her to dance class.  So far so good, I even got to go hit range balls while Lillie was at dance.  I especially enjoyed getting Maren's text messages that said how Hansen won the 6th grade long jump by a whole foot!  Way to go Hansen.

Once we all were home, Lillie was out riding her bike and playing with neighbors, Hansen was playing x-box, and Preston was sleeping on the couch...and all was right with the world...for a minute, until I checked my e-mail.  Yup, Lillie had forgotten her jacket and her backpack at Girl Scouts.  Normally I would so be on the whole "do you have your stuff question" but not yesterday.  It was off to the troop leader's house to pick up her stuff.  Which wasn't so bad, but Lillie would have been happy if I hadn't as then her homework wouldn't have caught up with her.

See you tomorrow, if I can find it!

Hansen Soccer/ Lillie haircut.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Saturday was Hansen's first soccer game of his season.  Photos then a game.  Hansen did very well!  He is the second tallest kid on his team and he scored a goal while his team won 7-0.

Hansen having his individual picture taken.
 And the whole team.
Running down the field to stay in position.  Hansen is the one in the gray shorts.  He said he knew the coach said black shorts, but these gray shorts are his favorites.  Hansen is very happy to be back in soccer, he is already talking about what select team he wants to join.

No soccer for Lillie...but yes she did get a haircut.
Lillie even got to spend extra time in the chair getting her hair blow-dried!

See you tomorrow.

Go Chargers.

Good morning, it is Friday.

Check out the cover to last night's soccer match:
Yup, my old high school vs. Preston's school.  Preston's team was better on paper with a better record and more experienced players, but KR got the win.  Go Chargers!  It is really actually quite sad for Preston's team as they have a new young coach and a roster full of seniors.  So far this combination has resulted in a bunch of unhappy kids and a team that hasn't performed to it's potential.  But this is as far as I go with my criticism because I have nothing to do with any of it.  I just tell Preston to stay patient and hopefully things will change for the better.  I still really enjoy watching these games and will go to as many as I can, even with having to pay $6.00 to get into the stadium.

See you tomorrow.

sNOw Wig pic.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

This is the calm before the storm.  Once I go to work it will be non-stop going until late tonight.  Yup, Thursdays are now the busiest days we have with soccer, soccer and dance.  But you have heard this song before and all you really want is a picture of Lillie's wig.  Well, I don't have one.  After not being satisfied with the wig we made, we stopped during our errand run last night and found her a very cute, very pink wig.  Only problem is...she didn't like the way it looked this morning and I was not allowed a picture.  The girl is fussy!  Maren just looks at me and laughs, then says something like, "wonder where she gets her fussy from?"  Who says I'm fussy?  Or is it: Who said I'm fussy?  Maybe it should be...you get the picture.  Actually you don't, because I wasn't allowed to take one!

But here is a picture of our back yard taken just this morning:
SNOW!  Who needs it!

And lastly, congratulations to Amber, Chuck and Aurora who are expecting a boy in August.

See you tomorrow.

1st Goal.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

No pictures for you today, but that doesn't mean we don't have anything to talk about.  Yesterday Preston scored his first goal on his high school soccer team!  Yay!  He was pretty darn happy to be sure.  And his team won 2-0.  Hansen was issued his soccer jersey (red and black) and Lillie is taking on a wig making challenge.  That's right, Thursday is Wacky Wig Day for her class so we purchased some yarn and are going to try to make a wacky wig.  Pics to come.

See you tomorrow.

1st Day of Spring?

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Well, what have you missed by not living in our house?  Quite a bit, but I won't bore you with all the details.  Yes, Maren got home safe and sound from Philadelphia.  She didn't bring the warm with her though and had to suffer through snow on Sunday Morning.  Since spring officially starts today, we hope to be done with snow.

Preston's soccer team tied his game last Thursday, and they have a game today as well...and Thursday, and Saturday, and Tuesday and Thursday, and and and lots of games!  Today is also parent night at the Jr. High School for Hansen, as well as track and soccer practice.  Lillie gets a day off, yesterday was her busy day.  Yes, next year all three kids will be in different schools!  Lillie is very excited because that means a cell phone and no older brother to crimp her style.

John and Carol got in a car crash on the way home from church Sunday.  They got hit from behind very hard, but luckily their Scion did a good job crumpling and protecting them.  Their car will probably be totaled, they will find out in a few days.  Also toast were their new fuchsias and a full tank of gas!  We are just glad they are OK and doing well themselves.
This picture is of Preston (#18) at the start of the last game.

See you tomorrow.

Art Walk.

Good afternoon, it is Friday.

Last night was the Grass Lake Art Walk.  The turn out was amazing and there was art everywhere!  I'm not joking about everywhere.  I don't think there was a a blank 3 foot area on any wall in the entire school!  Us art docents had been working overtime hanging all the art.  I was at the school last Wed, Thurs, Fri, and then on Monday as well getting all of my stuff hung and labeled for the art walk.

There was a scavenger hunt throughout the entire school which was a fun time, as well as a way to get all over the school to see the art.  In this picture Hansen is busy filling in a box on his sheet with Lillie walking away in the background.  My pictures don't really show the true extent of the crowds.  Just walking around was hard, and this was every hall in the school, the gym included.  Preston even came and said "hi" to his old teachers and hung out with a couple of friends.
In the gym there were tables of where you could do your own art and create art trading cards.
Besides kid's art, there were professional painters volunteering their time creating art and answering questions.  This artist makes amazing prints without a paint brush.  She said she stopped using a brush 5 years ago and uses her fingers.  She would squeeze the oil paint onto her fingers and create one color at a time. This was just a small thing for the show, but her large pieces such as a dog shaking water off and trees and such were amazing...and expensive:)
This guy was doing more of the kind of painting you think of when thinking artist.  Blending and brush strokes.  One lady was making murals using cut up credit cards...mostly Starbucks cards.  Hansen was a  little jealous.

The show was great and we had a nice time, but Lillie doesn't leave her art for school.  Yesterday she created these earrings.  I don't know the story behind the broken earrings that these were created from, and I don't want to know, but these are very cool...and the matcher on the other side is the same but with different colors:
Tonight is a big rival soccer game for Preston's school team.  Kentlake vs. Kentwood.  Go Kentlake!

See you tomorrow.

Soccer, Soccer, and Snow.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was a crazy busy day that we knew was coming, and thanks to extra help from family, it all went down perfectly.  Of course, who would have expected snow?  Maren left to a library conference (where she is presenting) in Philadelphia, Hansen had his first soccer practice on a snow covered sand field, Preston had his first varsity soccer match for his high school, and I had my first church council meeting.  And all these things overlapped at around 7:00 pm.

Thankfully John and Carol came out to our house and helped. Carol made a very nice dinner and stayed with Lillie while I took Hansen to soccer, left early and dropped him off at home with Carol and Lillie, and went to my meeting.  John took Preston to soccer and stayed for the game along with Stef and Derek who also came to cheer on Preston.  Stef even sent me text updates of the game while I was in my council meeting.  And the results are:  Hansen has a fun team to play on this year, Lillie and Nana  had a nice evening, Preston played nearly the whole game as their team won 1-0, my meeting went very long but interesting, and Maren made it to Philly.  So all great.

Stef texted me this picture of Preston going back into the game.  He is number 18.  A cold and rainy night that started with snow.  I am sure other pictures will surface as the days go on, I think there may even be a website being put together by parents of the team.
This is my bike in the snow as I got ready to ride to work yesterday.  As you can see we really did have some snow.  My commute is so short that I could push my bike to work in the same time it would take me to clear off my car, warm it up, then drive to work...besides, riding in the snow was fun!

See you tomorrow.

Haircuts.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

You wouldn't believe this, but we woke up to a couple of inches of snow!  It is not sticking on the roads and Maren had no trouble leaving for her trip to Philadelphia for a work conference.  The rest of us are wondering about the snow.  Will it affect Hansen's first soccer practice of the year?  Or how about Preston's first varsity soccer match of the year?  If your birthday is today (like our friend Kelly's) you are waking up to a "white birthday" for the first time ever...probably even cooler than having your birthday on Friday the 13th, which must happen once in a while if your birthday is on the 13th.

Last night the boys and I made a late night trip to Hairmasters and to Big 5.  The boys both got haircuts and  Hansen got shin guards and new soccer socks.
The boys with their new haircuts.  Looking good!  Preston had a picture of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo on his cell phone and they did a really good job.  Preston lost his number 7 (the number he used for the last 4 years...and Ronaldo's number) as it was already taken on both of his new teams, but now he is number 18 on the high school team (7 + a slurpee), and number 21 for PacNW (7 x 3), so it's all good. And Hansen gave his haircut two thumbs up too.
This is a fun picture of Maren's car parked at the lot near the Seattle Public Library.  Maren said that she circled around for a long time and this was truly the only spot open an she wouldn't even attempt it.  Her friend CiKeithia offered to park it...in reverse.  Maren said it was amazing.  CiKeithia folded in the mirrors, and in one quick move backed it right in!  Talk about crazy good parking skills.  Then she crawled out the passenger side to get out.

See you tomorrow.

The Seattle Bike Expo!

Good morning, it is Monday.

On Saturday Hansen and I went to the Seattle Bike Expo with Cousins Alex and Kraig.  As you know I love bicycles probably even more than golf clubs, so an expo like this is great fun.  Kraig is my age and used to ride a ton as well, so we were having a great time checking out the new technology and all the cool bikes.  Both Hansen and Alex would rather spend a sunny day playing x-box than going bike riding, but they do like bikes and when the x-box is turned off, bikes may be a second or third.  The kids had fun too, but they could have left a bit quicker than us adults.
One of my favorite road bikes at the show...made of wood!  All the latest bikes are carbon fiber and such, but I still like a steel bike the most.  What I really would like to find is an oldish steel bike frame in chrome that I could add to it what I wanted.  Maybe some day.
We watched a very cool BMX show with lots of flatland and vert stunts.  The kids thought this was very cool.
Check out this cool MTB bike.  This is the kind of bikes the kids were geeking over.  And free samples of energy drinks.
I think Kraig and I could have spent even more time in the Classic Bike Show than we did.  These old bikes are so cool!

With bikes on the brain, it is too bad that it had to snow yesterday and there is nothing but rain, hail, and yuk in the forecast this week.  Good thing this week will be revolving around soccer and school.

See you tomorrow.

Yellow Car!

Good morning, it is Friday.

I can honestly say this has been a long week!  Not a bad week, just a long one.  Today after work I will be rushing over to Lillie's school for art docent work and to quickly hang the work and get it all ready for the Art Walk next week.  Next week will be the long week!  Maren leaves for Philadelphia and Hansen and Preston's soccer begins in earnest...yikes!

Yesterday was a beautiful 60 degree day.  First as nice for a very long time.  I was lucky enough to get to go to the driving range while Lillie was in dance class.  The golf balls I was using don't seem to go as far as the ones I used to use...hmm.  But check out the car I parked next to:
Yup, that is my new yellow Ferrari next to some 22 year old pick-up truck.  I wish!  I parked two spots over from this car just because I was scared I might trip and bump into it.  Speaking of that, if you look closely at my truck and gaze straight down from the driver's side mirror, you can see that someone crashed into my truck while it was parked in front of my house!  How rude!  Probably a garbage truck or something big like that maneuvering to get around the culde-sac.  While it is not such a big deal, it is kind of irksome.

See you tomorrow.

A Bunny Named House.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Last night I had a nice talk with my dad, I called to wish him a happy birthday and we chatted about golf, soccer, motorcycles and HDTV.   And of course, ice-cream cake.

Earlier in the day it was bunny pictures for Lillie, Jack and Avery.  We planed our trip together and it worked out perfectly.  Easter must be right around the corner!
I took this picture of Avery, Lillie and Jack getting ready for their real pictures.  The photographer took some amazing pictures.  The real bunny was a trooper.  Jack was able to name him for our sitting.  His name is now House.  I'm guessing this bunny may end up with yet another name as the day goes on.
Lillie gets a moment with the bunny.
This Fairy ad near the front of the door is very cool.  Lillie and Avery will hoping for their own Fairy portraits to be sure...I'm thinking Nana may have something up her sleeve.

See you tomorrow.

Another Birthday?

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

After last weekend's birthday bonanza for Lillie, we ended on her actual birthday with a little family party in the evening for just us... after all, Lillie had dance practice and it was a school night.  But we did possibly have the best cake yet!  Yup, an ice-cream cake from DQ.   This cake has been so big and yummy that we had some last night too.  And maybe we will even have some tonight as well.  For dinner, Lillie's choice was was "nana mac".  In case you're wondering, "nana mac" is home made mac and cheese with Nana's special recipe.
When we are enjoying our cake tonight, we will also be wishing a happy birthday to my dad.  Yup, today is my dad's birthday.  Happy birthday!  We would send you a slice of cake dad, but it probably wouldn't survive the cross country trip down to Florida.  So instead, we will just eat it all ourselves...and hopefully you have your own ice-cream cake for this evening.

See you tomorrow.

Skate Party!

Good morning, it is Monday.

Yesterday was a skating party for Lillie's "friend" birthday party.  She and a few of her friends had tons of fun rollerskating and just goofing off!
 Yay!  My cake!
The girls all wanted mustaches.  Too funny!
And on the rink.  The skating place was not too busy, but there were other parties going on and this picture makes things look very empty.

Preston and Maren were not able to make to the party because of soccer tryouts.  The good news is that Preston made the a-team for the PacNW in his age group...hands down one of the best club soccer teams in the state!  Congratulations Preston!  And I don't think Maren really minded the change of pace of not running this crazy skate party.

See you tomorrow.

Party Time, Excellent!

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday was the joint family birthday party for Lillie, Jack, and Avery.  The twins turned 4!
Each of the birthday kids had their own candles and birthday song.  Lillie is about to blow out her candles right now!
Avery's Husky cheerleader outfit gets the Uncle Juju thumbs up!
A Buzz Lightyear spinny light up thingy in the very dark laundry room...cool!
Avery and Lillie getting down to decorating a birthday gift or two.

Fun party, lots of yummy pizza and cake!  Mel made a very cool pinata that you pulled a string and candy came out.  The kids played and goofed off for hours!  And it was just fun to visit with everyone.

See you tomorrow.

A Movie and Dinner!

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Yesterday was day one of Lillie's ninth birthday!  A movie and dinner!  Yay!
Maren and Lillie at the movie theater waiting for The Lorax to start.  I enjoyed The Lorax, and I will forever cringe when cutting down even the smallest tree for any reason.
Nana and Grandpa joined us for dinner and a movie.  Here we are at The Rainforest Cafe.
Yes, that is a huge volcano of brownie and ice-cream.  Happy happy birthday!

See you tomorrow.

Student Of The Semester!

Good morning, it is Friday.

Today is a teacher workshop day, so the kids and I are off from school.  Which means that Lillie's birthday festivities will begin today!

But before we get to that (tomorrow's blog?) we have some very exciting news from Lillie.  She was awarded the great award of Student Of The Semester at her elementary school!  She even got to attend a pizza party with the principal.
Here is quick picture of Lillie with her award as she gets ready for dance class.  Congrats Lillie!

See you tomorrow.

Who's That Cat?

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Last night was Read Across America Night!  Our school held a big program honoring Dr. Seuss.  Once again I was the Cat In The Hat.  Lillie came along with me for the fun as Maren had a meeting at Hansen's school for 6th grade camp...at Lake Waskowitz, where Maren and Preston went for their 6th grade camps!
Lillie and I trying out the photo spot for the Cat.  Yes, we did eat green eggs and ham!
Eric Ode was a featured performer.  He is always amazingly good with kids.  When Preston was little we would go see him preform at Libraries and such and always had a very good time.

But Preston is bigger now.  In fact, yesterday was a very exciting day for him.  Preston learned that he made the varsity soccer team this year at his high school!  Yup, one of only two 9th graders to make varsity in a school that is big enough for a varsity team, jv team, C team, and cuts as well.  Way to go Preston...of course, he does come from a very long line of excellent athletes:)

See you tomorrow.
