Art Walk.

Good afternoon, it is Friday.

Last night was the Grass Lake Art Walk.  The turn out was amazing and there was art everywhere!  I'm not joking about everywhere.  I don't think there was a a blank 3 foot area on any wall in the entire school!  Us art docents had been working overtime hanging all the art.  I was at the school last Wed, Thurs, Fri, and then on Monday as well getting all of my stuff hung and labeled for the art walk.

There was a scavenger hunt throughout the entire school which was a fun time, as well as a way to get all over the school to see the art.  In this picture Hansen is busy filling in a box on his sheet with Lillie walking away in the background.  My pictures don't really show the true extent of the crowds.  Just walking around was hard, and this was every hall in the school, the gym included.  Preston even came and said "hi" to his old teachers and hung out with a couple of friends.
In the gym there were tables of where you could do your own art and create art trading cards.
Besides kid's art, there were professional painters volunteering their time creating art and answering questions.  This artist makes amazing prints without a paint brush.  She said she stopped using a brush 5 years ago and uses her fingers.  She would squeeze the oil paint onto her fingers and create one color at a time. This was just a small thing for the show, but her large pieces such as a dog shaking water off and trees and such were amazing...and expensive:)
This guy was doing more of the kind of painting you think of when thinking artist.  Blending and brush strokes.  One lady was making murals using cut up credit cards...mostly Starbucks cards.  Hansen was a  little jealous.

The show was great and we had a nice time, but Lillie doesn't leave her art for school.  Yesterday she created these earrings.  I don't know the story behind the broken earrings that these were created from, and I don't want to know, but these are very cool...and the matcher on the other side is the same but with different colors:
Tonight is a big rival soccer game for Preston's school team.  Kentlake vs. Kentwood.  Go Kentlake!

See you tomorrow.

Wow, what a great art show! I loved hearing about (and seeing) the different artists. Very nifty earrings Lillie created, too. Good luck to Preston's team!
