A Leprechaun?

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday after school I went over to the kids' school to hang up the SpongeBob collages we made last Friday. The wall looks great! I don't know how I did it, but I think I strained my left hamstring while hanging the artwork. Dude...how do you injure your leg hanging art??? Well, I can tell you that creating a decent looking wall display of a bunch of art is not so easy...and it can be dangerous as well! I will be fine in a couple of days, no worries.

There was a wall near Lillie's room that was covered in these very cute stories and pictures of the students catching a Leprechaun. They are a cutout picture pasted on a drawing...very cute. Most of the kids were just standing there, arm out to the side, but looking like a deer in headlights...not our Lillie. She had her sassy little, "I caught a Leprechaun" look all thought out while whoever took the picture was taking the picture. Tonight Preston has a band concert. After school (before the band concert) is "demo day" at Jade Green Golf Course. I think will take Preston and we will check out all the latest and greatest golf equipment and get to hit lots of golf balls and such. Should be fun.

See you tomorrow.

What a hot dog!

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Yesterday Hansen had another cold and rainy track meet! I was able to get Lillie to come along as she was interested in playing on the big toy and possibly with her friend Lily.

Hansen was a shining star in the rain and gloom at his track meet. He won the long jump by 6 inches and he anchored the A relay team to a solid second place. Another nice track meet for young Hansen!

At the track meets there is a hot dog vendor who is a little "off price", but boy does it smell good around the cart. About halfway through the meet Lillie talked me into buying her a lunch meal. Yup, a hot dog, chips and a pop. I took 1/4 of the hot dog and about half the chips. She never finished the root beer. It was all worth it as she then went and played and had fun...but she wasn't supposed to go bragging about the meal to Hansen. Of course the moment we were walking to the car she blurts out, "Dad...did you throw away the rest of my root beer?" Hansen was like, "sure...buy her a hot dog meal huh?" Yum!

See you tomorrow.

1st Communion

Good morning, it is Monday. This weekend was 1st Communion weekend. The second graders and their families were front and center at church yesterday. We had all of us (except Preston who was in Vancouver WA playing soccer), John and Carol, Stef and Derek, and Annie with Alex, Claire, and Miles. The kids and adults had a very nice time. Lunch and dress shopping for the girls, lunch and hanging out for the boys. We got to the church early to take a few pictures. Actually the photo guy took pictures, I snuck in the back and took a few with my phone. Lillie with Pastor John. We will get a picture of Lillie with her communion group as well.
Lillie and Maren. Aren't they just the cutest?
And this was Hansen's big purchase this weekend. He is officially broke! But he did get a very good deal on a Rip-Stick. Hansen likes his wheels.

Good weekend, tired Monday.

See you tomorrow.

The Seder Meal

Good morning, it is Friday.

Last night was The Seder Meal put on by our church for the families of the second graders preparing for their first communion this Sunday. We were invited to be the head table and got to sit in the front along with the pastor and his wife. All of us were in attendance along with Stefanie, John and Carol. As the head dad at the head table I (along with Pastor John) lead the Seder. The pastor would talk about the why and what of everything, then I would read the blessings and lead the Seder. We had a very nice time and it was great to be the head dad. I even got to mention to the crowd about my grandfather being Jewish and always sending me all the literature and such for all the Jewish holidays. It was nice.

Here is a view of our table from my spot. The pastor and his wife would be to my left and Maren is ducking out of view right in front of the camera.
The traditional foods were served as well as a description each. Here Maren is dishing up her plate. Preston is in the background going for the taco dinner that was also provided for those not so interested in the traditional foods.

Now to collages...yup, the Spongebob collage for Lillie's art class was very fun. The kids all know Spongebob and enjoyed getting to glue, cut, paint, color and do all kinds of things to their artwork. I am sure I will get plenty of comments from the other docents and such for having Spongebob on the walls, but it's all good.

See you tomorrow.

Piano cat.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday was Hansen and Lillie's last piano lesson with Kacy. Their teacher is quitting teaching to head off to Europe for a bit then head off to college. The kids have enjoyed their time with Kacy and we wish her tons of success. Now that they are done with lessons, what next you may ask? Well, neither little will be rushing out to find a new piano teacher, I think they are ready for a break. I won't be surprised if they take it up again someday, but we won't be forcing the issue right now. So for now, the only one playing the piano at our house will be the cat:

Nope, this is not our cat or our piano. I found this picture on the Internet.

Today I will be art docent in Lillie's class. We are doing a collage as our month is artist Robert Rauschenberg. The Spongebob picture below is just there so if I need to access if from Lillie's class, I know where it is. Yup, why not have a little fun with this and throw Spongebob into the mix?
See you tomorrow.

Hansen takes long jump in first track event.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Yesterday was Hansen's first track meet of the elementary track season. This is the 5th year in a row that I have been watching Elementary track meets. And true to form, it rained hard for a bit, got almost sunny for a bit, all the adults were freezing in jackets and all the kids were buzzing around in tee-shirts and shorts like it was a summer day.

Hansen started out his 5th grade track season in style! He won the 5th grade long jump! Congratulations Hansen!

This is his winning jump...11 feet 5.5 inches. Not bad for his first jump of the year. Hansen also ran anchor in the "B" relay and was super speedy. Hansen says they will read the names of the winners in the morning announcements so he is excited to hear his name today!
The parents are not allowed inside the track area...so our pictures are taken through the chain link fences. The kids are free from their parents for this time and is probably why none of them put on jackets...if you try to talk to you child, all you get is a, "huh??? can't hear you??? got to go???" So the jackets are all piled on next to the fences and the water bottles are all untouched. I think it's great. Hansen had fun hanging out with friends and just goofing off. I had more than one parent come up to me and say that Hansen has gotten so tall and thin and his hair is so long and he ran so fast that they thought he was Preston from the 5th grade for a minute. Not a bad complement if you ask young Hansen. I mentioned something about form to Hansen on the car ride to the track meet, and he said, "Hmm, I will check with Preston...you know he is the expert at track."

See you tomorrow.

Super Moon.

Good morning, it is Monday.

This weekend I took a few pictures but they didn't really turn out, so sorry for you...just reading! Friday started with Preston gone with friends to a high school soccer game. Lillie and I dropped Maren and Hansen off at Costco and went and got her hair cut. Yup, just a day after her 8 year pictures...hmm, we may have to get a second picture done?

Saturday was kind of a soccer day. Preston had an outdoor game mid day and an indoor game in the evening. I went to the outdoor game, then all of us made it to the indoor game. The game was for the championship and the boys played great, but second place was where they ended up. It was a great season! Indoor is over for now, the State Cup seeding (or something) is starting this weekend as well as track.

On the way home from soccer, Maren was on a mission to see the SUPER MOON! We did get to see it and it was cool. While Maren was geeking out about a super moon being so cool, the rest of us were like, whatever. In fact I enjoyed egging her on just a bit by saying how the super moon was an evil moon...just look at what has happened in the world in the last week! No more super moons needed. But she wasn't to be persuaded...she liked the super moon. I took a picture of the super moon, but it just looks like a street light on my camera.

Track starts today for Hansen. He hopes to be in the long jump and a sprint. He's not so keen on running the 600 or throwing the softball. We will see tonight where the coach puts him.

Now to science fair projects and hot-fudge Sundays. After church John and Carol took us out to hot-fudge Sundays! Then it was time for Science Fair projects. Hansen did a good job getting his going. I need to buy new color ink for the printer, then he will be done. Lillie went to a friend's house to work on hers. I also changed the oil in all three cars. I was kind of surprised when buying the oil and filters that Maren's Hyundai and John's old Mazda pickup take the same oil and oil filters.

I will try to get a picture or two at Hansen's track meet tonight.

See you tomorrow.

Eight year pictures.

Good morning, it is Friday!

Yesterday I took Lillie to the local Yuen Lui Studio for her eight year old pictures. She chose her entire outfit from top to bottom as well as did her own hair. We have the slicked back and in a pony look this year because Lillie likes hair gel and it wasn't working to make it all poofy and curly yesterday. The photographer was complementing Lillie on her dress, and shoes, and hair and everything and when she found out that it was Lillie's 8th birthday and she chose everything, she let her choose many of the poses as well! Lillie did great, she was a little shy and wouldn't show off any of her hip-hop moves or do anything too crazy, but the pictures turned out great. I bought way too big a package as to get the disk of pictures...it is amazing how all these little $39.00 bump in packages add up to a much larger total!

This is a phone pic from behind all the action. The real pics turned out much better!

See you tomorrow.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

I hope you're wearing your green today...or...pinch! Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Last night Maren made the milk green with a few drops of food coloring. Preston came home from soccer quite late and without even noticing made himself a bowl of cereal. He ate it up while Maren laughed. Green milk and the such is totally lost on the colorblind! At least Lillie will shriek today when she sees the milk! Good prank Mar:)

Can you believe it? Preston couldn't even tell! Later I showed him an he was like, "maybe?" But haha. So, Happy St. Patrick's Day, and if some colorblind kid gets mad at you for pinching him for no green, yet he is dresses in brown, remember that he just might think he's wearing green. I will make sure the boys get some actual green on.

See you tomorrow.

Scarves Up!

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was opening day for our Seattle Sounders! Scarves up! Yes, we are big Seattle Sounders fans at our house...but really Maren and I are the biggest of the fans. Right now the kids would be making some smart remark about us literally being the biggest fans...but then, we do have a few wise crackers for kids. I mean, in our family Maren and I like the Sounders the most. Preston loves Barcelona, Hansen loves Arsenal, and Lillie loves not soccer.

Yesterday Beckham, Donovan, and the rest of the LA Galaxy came into Quest field (which by the way will become only a soccer pitch if the NFL keeps on its current path) and beat our beloved Sounders 1-0.

Yes, we had the best seats in the house, or in the universe, in front of our new TV! While it would have been fun to be at the game, there were things like a) school night b) cost and c) Rain that made our couch the best seats. Behind us is Preston's soccer game on the x-box tv...he stopped for just a moment to take our picture.

See you tomorrow.

A 3-D shirt?

Good morning, it is Monday.

Miss blogging for a few days and BOOM, I have way to much to talk about. So today you get a highlight film...only it's not a film...but highlights:

Just like everyone else in the world, we have been watching the Japan earthquake and following tragedies with awe and sadness. Our prayers go out to those affected by this disaster...and we're talking about a bunch of folks aren't we?

Friday Maren left in the morning to head down to Oregon with her friend Judy for a tax free shopping spree weekend. Yup, they spent the night somewhere in Oregon near a huge outlet mall and shopped, shopped, shopped, and shopped some more. By the time we saw her again Saturday night, she had a few bags of great buys waiting for all of us!

Saturday night was also so soccer night for Preston, but luckily his game was in Snoqualmie and Melanie invited us over to visit her, Court, Jack and Avery. The littles had a great time with the twins. Lots of bouncing and stuff like that. The Pizza was very good too! Preston's game ended up a 1-1 tie, which was fine as they were playing a very good team. The opposing coach had some very, very flattering things to say about Preston so he was a happy camper.

Yesterday after church John and Carol took us out to McDonald's to make it a Shamrock Shake Sunday! Yum! Afterwards Lillie went to their house to just hang out and relax. I picked her up at dinner time...good choice for me!

Here is Maren and Carol. And a Shamrock Shake. This was the last picture take of Maren before her new haircut. I think it turned out very nice, but I don't have a picture for you:(
This is Hansen showing off one of his great new shirts from Maren's shopping trip. A 3-D Tron shirt with 3-d glasses...cool!

Last but certainly not least, Hansen and Lillie got their report cards on Friday. They both did GREAT! We are very proud of them and the hard work they put into being a good student! Way to to Hansen and Lillie!!! Today is teacher conference day for them as well as a shopping spree at the Book Fair.

See you tomorrow.

The No Cavity club and more!

Good morning, it is Friday!

Today I have a few kind of random pictures that I took yesterday. Enjoy:

Yesterday Lillie had a dentist check up. Her teeth are great! She is still a proud member of the Zero Cavity Club! Her trauma tooth is indistinguishable from the other teeth at the moment and looks to have started growing again! She even got to watch a few minutes of Toy Story 3! Great check up!
This is part of the wall [at school] that has all the pictures of the kids with The Cat in The Hat...me! I don't get down this hall too much, but when I saw it, I just stopped, said, "holy smokes!" and took a picture. A couple of teachers were teasing me about having the exact same perfect smile for every single picture; I chalked it up to amazing good looks and talent, haha.

Around here Mardi Gras is not such a big deal. Usually a blurb on the news and that's about it. Sure, a few teachers talk about it and there may be a student or two wearing beads, but really that's about it. The stores kind of skip Mardi Gras and go straight to St. Patrick's day. Shopping for milk, clothes and a walk down the toy isle, look what we found...Hot Wheels Mardi Gras Diecast cars. I gave the kids a quick 2 minute misinformed lecture about Mardi Gras...now Hansen really wants to go because he is sure he will see all kinds of very cool cars on parade, lots of beads and masks, and fun everywhere. Go Hansen!

See you tomorrow.

Look Mom, no braces!

Good morning it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was a day Preston has been looking forward to for a long time. The removal of his braces! Maren had to work late late last night so she brought him in to the orthodontist early in the morning for braces removal.

This was the sign in the office welcoming newbies and celebrating those who have made it. Preston's name is 4th down on the right.

Maren took this picture of Preston as well. He got a ton on prizes and such as well. His orthodontist gives prizes at braces removal for those who take good care of their teeth and such. His prize bag consisted of chewy candy, popcorn, a gift card to Kent Station, and cash! Yeah...I was thinking the cash should go to the parents, but I guess it was the deal and Preston did do a good job with his braces. Next for him is retainers. He had a bar put on the bottoms and will get a retainer for the tops. I think he was enjoying the feeling of actual teeth!

Picking up Preston from school he was all smiles!

See you tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Good morning, it is Monday.

Today is my Dad's birthday! Happy Birthday Dad!
As you can see my dad is still going strong! I'm thinking he was filming some type of South Florida senior exercise program on the beach? Yes, that's my mom cheering him on and trying not to get an elbow in the nose.
This is more like it. After golfing, hanging on the couch watching some golf on TV with Joey. In this picture you can't see my mom because she would be taking the picture while hanging out on the other couch wearing her snuggie.
And this is the way my dad should be celebrating his birthday today!

Actually, these aren't just random pictures of my dad. I know, we all hang out and take these type of pictures don't we? This is from my mom's blog: http://lifeisjustabowlofchicken.blogspot.com/ on this blog you can see all kinds of pictures of my parents recreating pictures for fun.

Today Lillie gets to bring cup cakes to her class for one last party. This has been a great weekend with parties and cousins and playing. Last night a totally exhausted Lillie was very sad that her birthday weekend had come to a close.

See you tomorrow.

Party time!

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday was party day! As you know it was Lillie's birthday, but there are other birthdays being celebrated as well. Jack and Avery just turned 3, and cousin Claire just turned 10, so it was a big birthday party at Goodie Gumdrops!
Lillie with her special birthday cake that Nana made for her.
At Goodie Gumdrops doing craft projects. Right behind Lillie is Clarie, and beyond them are Jack and Avery.
This picture is too funny. The birthday train going around through the Goodie Gumdrops store. You can see Preston and the adults even fell into line. I missed the mandatory "get in line" deal because Kraig and I took a 20 minute break from the party to walk over to the near bye bike store! Hey, don't judge us, the birthday was great and the girl from the store (Stephanie) was super duper!
Lillie with Jack and Avery on each side getting ready to blow out candles.
Lillie got many great gifts. This is not necessarily her favorite, it was just her first...a princess Snuggie, yup, this picture if for my mom.

If you're getting tried of all these birthday posts in a row, too bad, there are even more to come! I am sure both my dad and Aurora would have enjoyed being in the birthday train at Goodie Gumdrops!

See you tomorrow.

It's great to be eight!

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Today is Lillian's 8th birthday!!! Happy Birthday Lillie!!!

Lillie's birthday celebrating started last night at the Rainforest Cafe! We thought it was going to be the Ram, then Red Robin, but Lillie settled on The Rainforest Cafe. It was a great choice, good food, fun atmosphere, a whole mall to shop from. Lillie got a little nail polish from Sephora, a very smelly store that Hansen actually refused to even enter. I ended up taking Hansen to look at shoes! Lillie also picked out a cute necklace from the the Rainforest gift shop.
Here is Lillie showing off how great it is to be eight out in front of the Rainforest Cafe.
And Lillie probably exactly eight years ago.

Today will be a wonderful day consumed by birthday parties for Lillie. I'm off to decorate a cake and Lillie is watching the movie Tower of Terror...interesting choice of a movie for your morning.

See you tomorrow.

Joe and Ranger are nine!

Good morning, it is Friday.

The kids and I have the day off due to a teacher workshop day. So it will be a day of goofing off, and maybe doing a chore or two.

Today is also Joe and Ranger's birthday. Yup, our kitty brothers [the kitties are brothers] are 9 years old today. Lillie always knows as they are one year older than her but their birthday is a day earlier. This morning, at like way too early, she was dragging around the cats singing happy birthday to them. I didn't get a picture of that, but I did get this:

Ranger about to run away and Joe being pinned to Lillie's lap. The cats must not mind the attention from Lillie because they could always get away from her if they wanted.
Yesterday was art docent day for me in Lillie's class. Lillie is working on her Picasso. We used oil pastels and made bulls. Picasso is tough for 2nd graders, much easier a few years older. But the projects turned out great as always...and for a few minutes the kids got to eww and aww over Picasso's artwork and now know about his blue phase, red phase, and cubism. At least they did yesterday.

See you tomorrow.

A birthday or two...or three.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday was Jack and Avery's birthday! The twins are now three! Happy Birthday Jack and Avery!!! I tried to copy a recent picture of Jack and Avery from Mel's blog, but it wouldn't let me, so here is a link the the blog if you want to check it out: http://www.melanieostergard.blogspot.com/

Yesterday was also Dr. Seuss's birthday and for the third year in a row I was The Cat in The Hat at our school function last night. We had a huge turn out...huge! I was in over 115 pictures with kids. There were readers reading Dr. Seuss books. You could make Horton hats and you could color your own fancy buttons. And of course, there was green eggs and ham for dinner!

Here is Lillie with the cat.
And Lillie with her green eggs.

Lillie is also in this crowd of kids watching a local firefighter read Sam I Am.

Yes, you guessed it, Lillie was the only other Slane to show up, but that is just fine. Preston had soccer and Hansen was happy to have a couple of hours with just his mom...or without Lillie...you decide.

See you tomorrow.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Last night was a fun dinner night around our house. Maren was not feeling too well so she went to bed early and I was in charge of dinner. I asked Preston to make us some stuffing while I reheated chicken. I thought dinner was great, as did Preston and Lillie. Hansen took issue...he said the stuffing had the texture of chicken and the chicken the texture of stuffing and he was not going to eat it!!! I insisted on one little, minuscule, so small you can't see it size bite, then whatever he wanted and could make for himself was fine with me. So after on bite of chicken and one bite of stuffing, both the size of a single cell, but still making the poor kid gag, he was off on his own for dinner.

Here is Hansen enjoying his dinner...Sugar Smacks! Yes, this stuff is so yummy you may never eat healthy again. So really it should be: Winner, winner, no chicken for dinner! Remember the other day when I was enjoying my Honey Nut Cheerios? Well, looks like there was a cereal sale on Amazon.com that Maren took advantage of...good for us!

Last night we realized that in just over a week the kids have to have their ideas in for their Science Fair projects. Lillie spent some time going through The Book Of Potentially Catastrophic Science that Sean Connolly signed for Hansen in Washington D.C. We may have found one or two good candidates. Lillie was checking out this one on friction:

Shuffle the pages of two books together, and you can't pull them apart! It worked for us.

See you tomorrow.
