White Christmas.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Yesterday we went to Down Town Seattle to the 5th Avenue Theatre to see White Christmas. It is always great to go see a musical at the 5th Ave, except for some reason all the productions at the 5th Ave. expect the audience to participate in a song or two. That is not really my thing, but I know Maren, Lillie, and Carol were singing along. At intermission the kids were a bit disturbed that it was not time to go, but it good that we stayed as the second part was very good, they even made it snow on the audience. After having it snow on us, walking outside into the dark streets outlined by trees full of lights was a very nice scene.

After the show we walked over the Johnny Rockets for dinner. Yum, and double yum. We also checked out Preston's new favorite store...the Niketown store. Yikes.

Back to work and school after a nice long weekend. Groan.

See you tomorrow.

Apple Cup.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday was the Apple Cup and yes that is the modern Huskies logo up at the top of my blog. The day that U of W and WSU have their big football game. This year both teams were very bad, with the Huskies being just a we bit better. Some were dubbing this the Crapple Cup as both teams are in the...you know. I did not win much this year as not too many WSU fans are willing to bet on such a crummy team. I did win a free pizza (Thanks Stef!) and a few bucks from other friends. Did I forget to mention that the Huskies skunked the Cougars 30-0?

What else did I do on Apple Cup Saturday? I changed the oil in both Maren's car and in my mini-van. That is always tons of fun! Maren got to go out with her mom and sister Stef to shopping and lunch, so she had good day all around! Preston slept as he neglected to sleep at his overnight with his friends the night before, in fact at this moment he has been sleeping for like 15 hours straight.
See you tomorrow.

Tree is up. Black Friday shopping.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Yesterday was the day we put up the Christmas Tree. A few years back we bought a fake tree with lights pre-installed. Maren immediately liked it more than the real trees we cut down at a tree farm every year. One of the main perks is that it just does not dry out. This would be a little early for a tree if it was cut down. Last night we slept under the tree. I don't know how this became a tradition, but every year, the day we put up the tree, we sleep down stairs using the tree lights as a nightlight. Preston actually ditched us this year and spent the night at a friend's house with a bunch of other buddies, so it was just the four of us. Hansen and Lillie can bicker like no one else, I think we needed Preston here just to keep order. But we still got some good stories in. I also have some lights on the house up and working.

In yesterday's post I mentioned that I did not get up and go shopping for the Black Friday adds. That is very true, but we were getting a little house bound so around noon we all went out. First we went to Target and found a couple of things for gifts. Then we headed down to the Super Mall in Auburn. Turns out that everyone (but me...my wants are too expensive) found just things they wanted. So instead of buying for Christmas presents, we just shopped for the moment. Maren got this fabulous little Gingerbread house, and also a gift bag thing thanks to a Black Friday sale.
Preston was just walking in the mall and all of a sudden ran away squealing. We found him in the carpet/ rug store with this FC Barcelona blanket. His favorite soccer team in the world. Yes they did have one in Twin size, so he now has one of these on his bed.
Hansen found a Pokemon package he has been eyeing for some time. Here his is trying not to look at the camera or laugh as I urge him to look at the camera and smile.
Lillie, as equally happy, if not more so than everyone else. She bought some real clip on earrings. Here she is leaving the super mall with one of her new pairs of earrings on just as happy as possible.
See you tomorrow. Go Huskies!

Thanksgiving

Good morning, it is Friday.

Today is known as Black Friday to the shopping world. Did I get up at the crack of dawn to shopping (I almost said "butt crack of dawn", but that would not have really been pc)??? I will never tell. Ok, you twisted my arm...NO, I did not go shopping this morning. But Hansen is sure hoping that I did. He is the one that I am not telling. Nothing we really needed was worth the trauma. I figure there will be more sales on the stuff we will buying in the coming weeks.

Yesterday we had a very nice Thanksgiving. We had a great turkey and all the trimmings. And great desserts. We watched Elf, and Yes Man. We also played plenty of Beatles Rock Band. Some of us even took a walk around the neighborhood in the rain looking at houses for sale. You can get a very good house for a great price in our neighborhood these days. We enjoyed reading our Thankful leaves and just hanging out.

This is a picture from Stef's phone of us Slane's playing Rock Band. It turned out very yellow, but it is cool, like we are at some cool club rather than just our game room. The best moment of the Rock Band night was hearing Preston sing Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band...He did a great job considering he did not know the song and he was reading the lyrics for the first time. Right now I am listening to Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song on the XM...very funny!
This picture is of Maren and Preston making very yummy margarita style drinks!
Preston taking his turn melting the sugar on his creme brulee. Hansen did get a turn as well. Lillie was a little scared to hold the flame gun. Good for her.

We had a great Thanksgiving, right now the Christmas tree is being decorated as is the house.

See you tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Our house currently smells very yummy as Nana woke up early to start cooking. Carol came out last night to spend the night. She slept on the pull out couch and had plenty of company. The biggest argument of the evening was who would sleep next to Nana vs. on the ground. All the downstairs sleepers were up nice and early to start cooking. This year we have Thanksgiving dinner at our house with a slightly smaller crowd than some years, but a very nice crowd none the less. We will have our 5 along with John, Carol, and Stef. Mel, Court and the twins are off to Thanksgiving with Court's family. Here is the view from the stairs as I was heading to bed last night:

Lillie was so excited about Thanksgiving dinner that the moment Nana showed up they made the table. We have the extender leaf in the table, a fancy table cloth, flowers, plates, napkins, and all the Thankful leaves. All the leaves are the ones we have been filling out over the last couple of weeks of things we are thankful for. It does look cool all together.
And on a last funny Lillie note. Her new favorite Christmas song is "Deck the Halls", but she does not actually know the words. She sings "Deck the Halls with boys and Hondas" Boys and Hondas??? We are in big trouble when this girl gets a few years older.
Have a great Thanksgiving,
See you tomorrow.

Parent teacher conferences.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was parent/teacher conferences at the jr. high school. The way it worked is that all the teachers had a desk set up in the gym or the auxiliary gym and parents would just go get in the line for the teacher you wanted to talk to. You were supposed to have like 3 minutes to chat with the teacher, then move on. Preston's classes had the longest lines as always, seems like the kids in the Highly Capable classes and the Honors classes just have parents that are more actively involved in their children's education than those in regular classes. Maybe that is not a fair generalization, but if the lines to see the teachers tell the story, then it can't be any other way. I almost went and talked to the wood shop teacher because his line was empty most of the night and I always enjoyed wood shop. Preston did very well. Very well. He got high As in all his classes, his work is always excellent, and the only issue any teachers (in fact more than one mentioned) was that they wish Preston would raise his hand to answer questions a little more on his own rather than just sitting quietly waiting to be called on, hoping not to be called on. The first time I heard that I was actually surprised that our Preston just sits quietly. That is a criticism that we can very happily live with...just like in elementary school the only criticism was that his desk was a little messy, no big deal. I really enjoyed all his teachers and I feel really fortunate that Preston gets to go to such a good jr. high school with such good teachers.

In the evening I took the kids out to Cold Stone Creamery for a little congratulations on great report cards and super conferences. Lillie chose Pink Lemonade ice-cream mixed with chocolate chips, Preston had a Berry Lemony smoothie, Hansen had a chocolate creme latte, and I had chocolate ice-cream with chocolate chips. Maren decided she would rather stay at home and relax as this has been a stressful week for her at work.

Today we all get home early and are off for the next two days for Thanksgiving!

See you tomorrow.

Haircuts

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Short post today...I had to upload some new messenger in order to continue. Crazy.

Maren and Preston survived the dentist. They both passed with flying colors!

Last night was also haircut night for Preston and Lillie. Lillie did not need a haircut, but she just could not stand Hansen getting one a week or so ago, and then Preston last night. So she got a trim as well.

Tonight I have mini conferences with Preston's teachers as he gets out early along with the littles.

See you tomorrow.

Advent, errands.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Yesterday after church we stayed after to participate in a craft project where the kids made Nativity sets. It was a fun craft with hot glue guns, paint, and pens. Here is a picture of Lillie's set. Hansen also made a set for himself which looks very similar. Preston grumbled the whole time thinking he should be free to go somewhere else.

We had other errands to run in the afternoon as well. Preston went to a friends house to practice some band songs, Hansen picked up his glasses with his new lenses, and then we went out to Las Margaritas for dinner. We have really started to enjoy Las Margaritas. The funny thing is that everytime we have been there, we run into friends. As we did in Fred Meyer. That is just what happens when you never move.

Hansen so far does not like his new glasses, hense no picture. The prescription is strong enough that he needs to learn to point his nose at what he is looking at to reduce distortion...but he likes to look out of the edges of his eyes because he just does. At Fred Meyer's Lillie found the dog she wanted, a toy with a solid leash that you can make the dog do tricks and stuff.
Today is beginning of conference week for the kids, and Maren and Preston have dentist visits.
See you tomorrow.

Alex's birthday party

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Yesterday was a full day. I left work early to go to Lillie and Hansen's school to be an art docent in Lillie's class. Yesterday's assignment was on Surrealism and our art project was based on Miro. I started by talking for a moment on Surrealist painters and showing some of the famous Miro paintings. Then I passed out a large piece of paper to each desk as well as an assortment of pens, a glue stick, and a cut out of an orange circle that the students had to incorporate into their project. Then we made stick figures in action. The quick example I made was a funny guy skateboarding, the orange circle was one of the skateboard wheels. Some kids made the orange circle the sun, others the head, others the wheels of a skateboard. The kids had tons of fun and I think the project was a success.

Shortly after we got home, we loaded up the van along with John and Carol and headed over to the Oman's house for Alex's 11th birthday party. There were plenty of kids and plenty of relatives and we had a very nice time. Very good pizza, and very cood cake and ice-cream. They played a fun game sardines in the dark using only glow sticks. Good party. Here is a picture of Alex opening a present with Hansen peeking over his shoulder, friends in the forground, and the girls staying just a bit off on the right.

See you tomorrow.

Slow news day.

Good morning, it is Friday.

Yesterday was a slow news day around here. Maybe I should cover Sarah Palin and her book tour and her running outfit on the cover of Time. Uh, no, it will never be that slow of a news day around here.

So, the news of the day...Maren paid Preston $1.50 as reward for Preston finding my glasses. Yup, I have been wearing back up glasses for two days because my regular glasses have been missing. It was a mystery. The reason it was a mystery is because Maren did not find them after only one minute like she does everything else I loose. Which is mainly my glasses, keys, wallet and any important paperwork I may have to fill out. Of course I am the one they come to when Preston looses his knee brace or Lillie can't find her favorite stuffed animal. Strange huh? Well, the glasses were under my computer desk in a small place kind of bent up and stuff. They must have been dropped and kicked while kids were playing computer games! I'm glad to have them back.

Hansen is doing great with his ears. Still a ways away before the attention fades, but he is a trooper. Yesterday when getting in the car quickly due to the 5,012th day of pouring rain in a row I did not think to roll the window down a crack to alleviate any pressure from the door closing...I think Hansen will never forgive me for that one.

Enough for now, I wonder what Congress members think of the Palin cover of Time, I bet if I turn on FOX news, I may be able to find out. Ha Ha.

See you tomorrow.

Hansen's day off.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday was a stay at home day for Hansen as he recovers from ear surgery. Preston and Lillie had school, soccer and piano as usual. Hansen was lucky enough to get a visit from Nana and Grandpa. They took him to Target to pick out a toy, and to help choose birthday presents for Alex. I decided to tag along, but I had John drop me off a block early so I could deal with a payment issue at the music store (The did not record a payment from Nov 08, and without telling me they have been accruing late fees-rude!) and to run to the bank. By the time I walked back to Target, Hansen was just finishing finding all his stuff. Nana and Grandpa have far more patience than I do! Then it was over to Dairy Queen for Lunch. We had a very nice lunch, Hansen even grabbed a MooLate for the ride home. His goal was to share it with his mom, but throughout the day...he just could not wait. He kept asking, "when is mom getting home?", I would say "three more hours.", then he would go slurp his Moolate. Needless to say Maren never got a taste of that treat! We just won't mention anything to Maren and she will never know the yummy treat that could have been hers if she could have made it home from work just a bit earlier.

Hansen and Lillie are choosing Christmas music to learn for their Piano recital in a few weeks. Looks like Lillie will play Jingle Bells and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, and Hansen has yet to decide.

See you tomorrow.

Hansen doing well.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Hansen did great with his ear surgery. He had to be there at 7:00 am, so Maren did not get a sleep in day on her day off with Hansen. It was a long surgery where they used fat from his ear lobe to fill in the hole in his ear drum. They got home around 11:00 and Hansen was still sick for a while. By the time I got home at 2:45 Hansen was doing fine and hanging out. He is still a bit pale and needs drops in his ear (which he hates) two time per day. He must also not rough house, sneeze with his mouth shut, or drive over mountain passes for a few weeks. In a few weeks he will see the doctor again and have the packing taken out of his ear, and hopefully be onto a world of no ear worries. I am taking today off of work to hang with Hansen. Sounds like he may get a visit from Nana and maybe taken out to lunch...Lillie is not too happy about Hansen getting all the good stuff! The rest of us don't really see it as Hansen getting all the good stuff, actually it is quite the opposite. In fact Hansen get his new stronger powered glasses in a few days as well.

Here is a funny cartoon from the paper the other day. Maren likes the "Baby Blues" cartoon the most...it is always funny. We have a couple of them taped to the cabinet door.

See you tomorrow.

Hansen ears, 40 year check up, XM radio back on.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Hansen and Maren are already out the door. Hansen is getting his left eardrum patched today. There has been a hole in his eardrum since tubes were in his ears some 5 years ago. Now it is time to patch the hole, and Maren is taking the day off to take Hansen to the docs. I will take tomorrow off to hang with Hansen and he should be ready to be back in school on Thursday. Our fingers are crossed that this will be the final installment in the Hansen ear saga. I will let you know how it went tomorrow.

Yesterday was my 40 year check up. I passed...barely. I checked out nice and healthy, but they can't really decide. When I showed up the nurse took my blood pressure and said it was 139 over 98? They said this was high and this and that. Then because I seemed otherwise healthy, they took it again on the way out and it was like 112 over 70 which was way better I guess, I don't know what these numbers mean. I am thinking the tester was not so great at the testing? I will still have to go do a blood draw after fasting in a few days, but otherwise, I'm doing great. The doctor only called me 45 years old once! Actually as far as check ups go, this was kind of fun, getting lectured on eating more vegetables and such.

And in other news, the XM radio is alive! I had canceled my XM radio several months back while getting rid of unnecessary bills. Maren still has hers in her car as she loves it and drives enough to warrant any type of radio that she wants. But me, I don't go far in my car, and I don't 170 channels for Preston to hijack...were not having that. My XM did have cool little house jack and looks good in the house as well, so it made sense to not toss it out. Well, a couple of weeks ago Maren started asking about turning mine back on so we could listen to all the great holiday stations in the house and such. Just as I was saying "nope", XM came out with a mailing saying that the unused XM was being turned back on for a month for free. Of course they will hope we love it so much we renew our subscription...and I think they may be right.

See you tomorrow.

visits, leaves.

Good morning, it is Monday.

We stayed plenty busy this weekend, as usual. Saturday we were out at Melanie's house to visit with Maren's relatives who were visiting from California. We ate pizza and just hung out and had a nice time. Hansen and Lillie really had fun with Jack and Avery.

Sunday was busy as well. Church, chores, soccer, and a KSTC meeting.

Here are some pictures: This one is of Jack wearing Preston's old fishy boots. These were the only footwear Preston would wear for a very long time. Preston loved those boots at Jack's age. Jack and Hansen had tons of fun playing on the stairs and with balls and such. Preston was off at a soccer game.

Next is Lillie hanging out with Avery. They had fun with about everything.
Yesterday was rake some leaves in the pouring rain day. The rain did not keep Lillie from wanting to do some leaf jumping. Here she is checking out the begining of a long pile of leaves.
A few minutes later, jacket off, running and jumping in the leaves.
See you tomorrow.

Calendar, Cards, Candy.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

It is nearly 11:00am and Preston is still sleeping. Who knows how long he will sleep if we don't go bug him soon? Maybe we will just find out. Lillie on the other hand was up at like 7:30 am waking me up. Groan. I would have blogged early, but we watched Happily Never After 2. The Snow White movie. It was a fun movie. That was a short sentence.

Yesterday Maren went to lunch with Stef at Bellevue Square. Stef purchased this new Lego Advent Calendar for Hansen. Here is his totally excited face:

This is a girl made of cards by Lillie. She knew the "e" was backward, but just did not care. This is life sized, but the picture of her lying next to the card girl did not turn out so good.
This is a very good treat. Recommended to the Facebook world by a Facebook friend. Yum.
See you tomorrow.

Skipping this post.

This is post 666. Yesterday was Friday the 13th. I am skipping this post...and knocking on wood, crossing my fingers, and tossing salt over my shoulder.

paraskevidekatriaphobia

Good morning, it is Friday...the 13th. Yikes!

Do you have paraskevidekatriaphobia? According to Wikipedia, this is the fear of Friday the 13th. I don't have this fear, but I am generally just a little more cautious on this day. When walking to work I will eyeball the cars coming in my direction just a little longer and just little stuff like that...maybe that is how the downward cycle into superstition begins? Shake it off Slane.

Yesterday was eye appointment day for the kids. We showed up at Dr. Koznoski's Fairwood clinic 15 minutes late yesterday, but they still treated us great. Lillie had her first ever real eye check up, which meant eye drops to relax her eyes...the rest of the evening she could not see up close. Kind of freaked her out at first, but when she realized it was only for a little while, no problem. She was reading in her bed last night just fine. Preston and Lillie have perfect eyes for their ages, Hansen needs stronger lenses to be put in his glasses.

Well, snow is now creeping into our weather forecasts. We will see if anything actually happens in that department or if it will stay in the mountains.

See you tomorrow.

A full Veteran's Day.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

We had a nice Veteran's Day yesterday. Maren had a successful trip to Value Village while we all slept. She did get a nap in later in the day, so it worked out for her. Preston got to visit the doctor to learn about his sprained MCL. Luckily it is not so bad, he will be wearing a brace for a little while and only soccering one day a week instead of four for about a month. Hansen had his soccer banquet and had a great time. I also took Lillie and Hansen to an antique store in Auburn where they had tons of military memorabilia and such. We went there with the Shephard's and had a great time, until the kids realized that if they had money they could buy stuff and seeing old antiques became wanting everything. And I picked up a Gift Certificate that Jade Green Golf course very generously giving to Preston's soccer team for the silent auction in a month.

Here are some pics:

Hansen with his trophy. Coaches said he had the biggest foot on the team! Hansen liked that.
Hansen and Lillie being my leg warmers. Actually I dragged them around the wood floor (instead of mopping?) and they just laughed and howled. I guess they are not all grown up just yet.
Preston decided it was time to start baking and decorating cakes. Here is his first ever cake. Not sure where the duck came from, but I can attest that the beak was yummy. I had to buy the frosting because Preston beat me in a putting contest while we were at Jade Greens...and yes, I did try my best.
Hansen and Lillie along with Nick and Heidi at the Antique shop in Auburn. Here they are in front of a wall covered in military patches. Hansen especially liked the old military helmets, while Lillie liked the antique dolls.
I took this picture of a dollar bill selling for $1500.00. I don't even know why, but is must be something very special. There were other bills with printing errors and such as well.
Today feels like a Monday...Glad it's Thursday.
See you tomorrow.

Happy Veteran's Day.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Happy Veteran's Day. Happy Veteran's Day to Grandpa Sandler and John Ostergard, and to all other veterans reading this blog or not. Yesterday John got to go to Grass Lake and walk into the Veteran's Day Assembly with Hansen and Lillie at his side. For the five years we have had kids at Grass Lake, they have always had a very nice Veteran's Day Assembly honoring student's relatives and all veterans.

Today we have no school and Maren has no work. That is what happens when you're employed by the school district and the library system and a holiday such as Veteran's Day comes around. So today the kids are all sleeping in, and Maren is off at Value Village shopping the half off everything sale. Shopping the Value Village half off sales is the other half of being employed by the school district and the library system...but we would not want it any other way.

Last night we went on a little outing to Dairy Queen for Blizzards, followed by a quick trip to Target. I could handle an Oreo Blizzard like every day! And I don't think I am alone on that one.

Here we are at DQ enjoying a Blizzard and not minding each other's company for a little while.
Walking into Target is walking into a sea of Christmas. Hmm, maybe that line will be my next facebook status update.
See you tomorrow.

dentist, haircut.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Yesterday was kind of brutal for most of us. Maren had to work late and we did not get to see her until after 8:00pm. The rest of us did not get to just party either. It was a trip to the dentist for Lillie, Hansen and Myself. Preston is on Maren's dentist schedule now, so they will be going in a few weeks. After the dentist (yes, we all passed!!! no cavities and good brushing scores around!) we picked up Preston and went to Carl Jr. for dinner. Yum. And even though Hansen had plenty of homework, we stopped and got him a haircut as he really needed one, and there was no wait.
Lillie in the dentist chair. Cool shades! Lillie had a fit that she did not get her hair cut when Hansen did. She though she needed a haircut more than anyone else and that life is just not fair! Truth is, Preston need the haircut the most.
Hansen and his new haircut. Hansen liked that the dentist office had a coffee maker even though he did not get any. When the dentist folk would tell him that coffee is bad and can stunt your growth and stuff, Hansen would just say that he is the tallest in his class and he figures he can us a little growth stunting...so give me some coffee!
See you tomorrow.

paper planes

Good morning, it is Monday.

Yesterday was a fine day around here. Church in the morning, Sounder's game on the TV (sad they lost), off to John and Carol's house for dinner with Mel, Court, the twins, and Court's nephew. A little later it was back home and watching Will Ferrell's Land Of The Lost(what a funny movie, at least on DVD...don't know if it would have been worth full admission price).

When it was time to get the kids to brush their teeth, they were stalling with an airplane making/throwing contest off of the top of the stairs. Looked like fun to me, but of course that is not a good excuse to stay up all night! Here they are on about their last throw. Usually it is a contest to see who can get a plane stuck on the way high window ledge above the stairs. The kids running up and down the stairs full speed to see the results of their plane's flights reminds me of Preston's favorite saying, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt...and then it is hilarious!"

Today Maren works late and Lillie, Hansen and I have dentist appointments.

See you tomorrow.

rain, pancakes, Christmas stuff, Thankful leaves.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

This has been a very rainy weekend so far. Preston had a soccer game in the pouring rain, and the moments that the rain slowed, it just got cold. Hansen was actually happy that his soccer season had just ended so he did not have to play. The only thing about the rain is being stuck in the house. When I tucked Lillie into bed last night I asked her if she had a great day, she said sure, but I just watch movies all day. For some, that would be a great day off, but for others of us, we need to get out and move around a bit. I took Preston to the driving range on Friday for just that reason...I needed to get out and move around a bit. I must admit that I had forgotten how fun it is to hit range balls into a dark sky with the lights shining on the ball for the first 100 yards.

Yesterday Preston wanted pancakes for breakfast...so he made them himself. He did a very good job. Except for the cleanup. I guess I need to remind him that your not done, till after your cleaned up.

I packed up all the Halloween stuff and brought down the Christmas stuff. Lillie is a very happy camper. She is working on Christmas puzzles, watching Christmas movies, and wishing we would let her start the Advent Calendars.

Since it is still Thanksgiving season, we do actually have some Thanksgiving stuff going on. Maren got out a bunch of paper cut out fall leaves. At dinner we choose one person and everyone else in the family writes something about the person that they are thankful for. My name was first, Maren was last night, Preston will be tonight, and then Hansen, Lillie, and maybe even the cats? The only rule, which is a bit hard for Hansen to follow, is that you can't be mean...and saying stuff like, "I am thankful that dad is not too fat!" does not really cut it. We just do one a day, but Lillie just can't help herself and makes a few each day. We are keeping the leaves in a bowl, so if you're over for a visit, you can check them out.

See you tomorrow.

Red Robin and more.

Good morning, it is Friday.

Maren is up to go to work, so I thought I would get up with her for awhile...I am going back to sleep once she is off to work, but no reason to tell her that.

Yesterday was allowance day, 75% off Halloween stuff at Target, choir practice for Hansen and Lille, and the night we decided to go to Red Robin to use a couple of gift certificates that Hansen and Lillie got for being good students! Preston was bumming that in Jr. High you don't get free milkshakes at Red Robin for being a good student, instead you have to go clean out ditches! He is required to do 10 hours of community service for one of his classes and he has decided the ditches around our neighborhood need cleaning. He is correct, but there are many many other things he could have chosen, so we don't feel too bad for him. Part of Preston's assignment is to write to a council member asking for permission to do his community service. I enjoyed Preston's letter because he said how when he was a kid we would walk along the ditches and he would look for treasures like lost toys or sometimes money, but now when he walks along the ditches, all he sees is garbage and beer bottles. I told him his letter was great, but really the ditches look just the same, just his perspective has changed.

Here are a few pics from yesterday:

Lillie and Hansen thought this Statue of Liberty with a Red Robin burger was too cool.
Lillie and Maren at Red Robin.
This is yesterday at the bus stop. I walk Lillie, Hansen and a friend to the bus stop each morning, their bus leaves at 8:46am, then I walk half a mile up the road to my school to start my shift at 9:00am. Works out perfect. Yesterday the kids were lined up sideways to see who the bus would stop in front of. Hansen was the winner, the kids all jumped behind him in line and were off to school. Hansen if far left, Lillie is far right.
See you tomorrow.

Haircut, sock story.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Today is like a Friday to me and the kids, we don't have school tomorrow! Maren says this feels like a Friday to her only if you pretend that she will be working on Saturday and Sunday. So...not so much like a Friday to her.

Yesterday was haircut day for me. I have not paid for a haircut for probably 20 years. Back when I worked at Payless Drug Store I purchased a cheap hair clipper set, and I still use it to this day! I do the whole haircut with clipper setting things, and Maren is nice enough to make my neck line nice an straight. One more reason to stay on good terms with her...who knows what she could do the back of my hair with one little slip of the clippers.

Lillie has a sock story she wants me to blog about. Yesterday morning she came down complaining that she lost a sock while she was sleeping. All morning she could not find the sock, so she left the one that was left on her foot and put a new one on her other foot (she does not like to matcher her socks). After school she told me that her foot was too hot at school so she took of her boot and that is when she realized she had some how woke in the night and put both socks on the same foot. She just laughed and laughed that she had worn three socks all day and that she has absolutely no idea how that sock went from one foot to the other foot while she slept. I guess you had to be there, but it is a pretty funny story.

Ok, now that I have bored you to the brink of death, I will sign out.

See you tomorrow.

H's last soccer game.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was a long day for all of us. Maren worked late teaching a class and did not get home until after 9:00pm. Hansen had his last soccer game and we did not get home until almost 9:00pm. Hansen's team won and really they had a great season. I think they finished 5-4. Hansen played middle defender the whole game, his best position for sure. He likes goalie, but does not like to use his hands, so he is far better off being defender, doing the same job, and having a goalie behind him. Lillie and Preston did a good job entertaining themselves during the game. The pic is of them goofing with a soccer ball between fields, Hansen's game is in the background. Soccer fields under the lights are cool!

Today Hansen and Lillie have piano lessons, Preston has soccer and an ortho appointment. Who knows what color bands he puts on his braces tonight?

See you tomorrow.

First snow angel of the season.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

This week is a short week for the kids, they will get Friday off from school so the teachers can have a day to do report cards. Short weeks usually also mean less homework! The kids were happy to just hang out last night for the most part. Hansen got the biggest reprieve, some days his homework load seems like quite a bit. Preston still had soccer practice, and the rest of us had a few errands to run.

I have not brought the Christmas box down from the attic yet, but Lillie kept the festivities alive...by playing with her food. Lillie says this is the first snow angel of the season:

Tonight Hansen has his last soccer game of the season and Maren is working late.

See you tomorrow.

Halloween weekend.

Good morning, it is Monday.

We had a very full weekend! Where to start? OK, Camden's birthday party at the Bouncy Place was very fun. It was great to get the adults on the big slides. My elbow is still showing a good rug burn. There are a few fun pictures of Maren, Stef, and Annie crashing down a big inflatable that have been posted on facebook by Craig! Lillie had a super time with Claire, as did Hansen with Alex.

Trick or Treating. Tons of candy. Lots of trick or treaters came to our house. Some very fun houses to trick or treat at in our neighborhood. The neighbor has an old wooden sail boat that they bring out in the yard, paint it all black, dress up as pirates, and lower candy down to trick or treaters with a bucket. Lots of dry ice make it super cool. Another house had a very clever haunted house in the garage, very spooky, very clever. One room that Hansen was scared to go into, I went first...then a voice over the loud speaker, "Don't make your daddy go first!" Hansen was done. Lillie just thought the house was gross with all the fake dead body parts and such.

Yesterday Preston had a soccer game and the rest of us ran errands. Now that Halloween is over (just barely!), Lillie has found a Christmas play house and now wants all the Christmas decorations to come out! I may fight her off for a few days, but what is the use? This picture is her just taken yesterday with a Christmas toy house and a Christmas shirt on.

Oh, yeah, we really enjoyed the extra hour of sleep, everyone slept in this year! It is light right now which is nice, but it will be dark just too early this evening.

See you tomorrow.
