Tour of Sound Transit Light Rail.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday we were invited on a field trip to tour the Sound Transit Light Rail which included a train ride on the light rail system. There were about twenty of us on the tour. We had a great time, learned a ton about trains and Sound Transit. The light rail is both elevated at times, and on surface streets at other times. Our day started with a tour of how the system works, to how the system is maintained, and lastly a ride on the train. Everything was interesting, including looking for artwork along the train ride. We had a great time, here are a few pics:

Hansen looking out a window at an elevated train track and downtown Seattle.
In the maintenance facility, in front of a train...this would not be good a good situation in real life!
Lilllians getting a tour of the underside of a train. Really amazing.
Sitting on the train. Lillians in the front row with the boys in the back.
The guitar and the group at the Tukwila station. We rode from downtown Seattle, to the Tukwila station (as far as it goes today...will go to the airport soon, and the U-district after that) got off the train for lunch at McDonalds, then back on the train to downtown again for the end of the tour, back in the mini-van and home. Riding the Sound Transit light rail into downtown Seattle sure beat driving!
See you tomorrow.

How interesting. Why is it called Sound Transit? You're lucky to be able to get this great tour. Looks like you'll be going back to work Julian and the kids back to school.

Hey, that's really cool! Maybe we can ride it if we come visit.

I would guess the name comes from our region "Puget Sound", and probably the word "sound" meaning good or solid...At least thats what I am making up.

We hope to be in school on Wednesday, but I won't be suprised if it is still week or so away.
