New bicycle. Target.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Yesterday I got a new bicycle. Nope, I did not spend $3500.00 on a carbon fiber Specialized road bike, nor did I spend $850.00 on a high performance hybrid bike. I spent $40.00 on a Gary Fisher Gitche Gumee hybrid mountain bike. The bike is cool deep orange color, but Lillie insists it is red. Yup, saw it on Craigslist and jumped. It is a bike that was new probably 8 years ago, used a little, then forgotten about, moved, and neglected. The low price was due to the fellow not wanting to do any work on it whatsoever to sell it. The tires were old and flat, the real wheel had fallen off, but was stuck in the chain, basically the bike just would not go. I snapped it up for $40.00 and put all the new parts I had just bought for my other bicycle on it...I have always wanted a Gary Fisher bike. New road tires, a bicycle computer, better pedals and a little elbow grease, and the bike is as good as new. This bike will be just fine for the LiveSTRONG challenge and all the training involved.

Last night on the same trip to pick up the bicycle, I also took Lillie to Target to buy a birthday present for her friend Ali, whose party is today. Lillie had been totally bummed out because I took Hansen up to the school park to play while she was playing at a friend's house. She thought I should have known that she would have wanted to go and I should have picked her up from her friend's house on the way. Hmm. Anyhow, she wanted a toy and was being a bit demanding so there was no way I was buying her a toy, but to make peace and not buy her a toy, I offered to buy her an Slurpee drink at Target. She did after all do a good job when I bought the bicycle, and was calming down nicely. So she had her Slurpee (half cherry and half black berry) as we shopped for Ali's gift. She did not ask once for her own toy, but in the sports clearance there was one brand new Callaway golf bag originally $129.00 on clearance for $27.00. I was thinking about buying it when Lillie piped up, "If we are not buying anything for ME, we are not buying anything for YOU!" I did not buy the golf I really need one anyhow? Not.

See you tomorrow. Go Arizona!

Found a training partner for the LiveSTRONG Challenge.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Today feels like Friday for me and the kids. Friday is a teacher workshop day, so no school for kids or paras. Party time!

Last night while Lillie was in dance class Hansen got to go to his friend Nicholas' house. Hansen used to go to school with Nicholas but still goes to church and Sunday School with him. They have remained good friends and look like they could be cousins. When I was picking Hansen up I was talking to his dad about the LiveSTRONG Challenge. Looks like I now have training partner, and maybe he will ride in the Challenge as well. That will be nice, no excuses any longer.

Tonight Hansen has Choir, but the others are off the hook. Preston is enjoying his week off from soccer, but will be happy when practice starts up again next week.

See you tomorrow.

Maren is home, School today?

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday Maren got home from her ALA trip to Denver. Sounds like she had a very good time, has a great committee, and brought home lots of new books. She even brought home little $3.99 viales of gold from the US Mint in Denver. She said the tour was amazing. The kids think their little vile of gold will be what makes them rich!!! Maren had a nice trip, but she is glad to be back. Lillie was asking if Maren had to work tomorrow and if she had school tomorrow. When the answer was "yes" to both, she slumped over and said to her mom, "That means I don't get to hang with you all day." Maren was like, "nope, but you get to hang with me all evening, and since when do you just hang with people?" Lillie's reply was that she just saw it on TV. We have got to get Preston off remote control duty. How many of you have seen Total Drama Island? It is a cute cartoon that is a spoof of Survivor. If you like survivor, and cartoons, you will enjoy TDI.

It will be interesting to see how many kids are at school today. Originally today was scheduled to be a teacher workshop day, but after missing a couple of days due to snow, the workshop day had to be pushed back a couple of days. Now the workshop day is on Friday. Sure, there have been notes sent home with kids and in the bulletins and stuff, but even yesterday I had a few students tell me that they would see me Thursday because today was no school.

Today Lillie has dance class and Hansen gets to visit his friend Nickolas while Lillie is in class.

See you tomorrow.

6th grade camp, I'm thinking Arby's.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Last night I went to an informational meeting for the GL 6th grade school camp at Camp Waskowitz Outdoor Education School in North Bend. Maren actually went to 6th grade camp there, now it is Preston's turn. The kids all groaned and thought they would change their minds when they learned that they were not allowed to have their cell phones at will they make it without a cell phone??? I guess not all the elementary schools get to go, and I don't remember going to camp as a 6th grader. Preston and the GL kids are just lucky.

Afterwards, since the meeting was at dinner time, we headed out to eat. The kids unanimously choose Arby's. Curly fries around. One of the kid's favorite thing about Arby's are the Apple Turnovers. That was until last night. Last night they discovered the horror, yes Arby's puts a few raisins in the apple turnovers. One raisin just killed the whole experience for each of the children. I actually enjoyed the apple turnovers, and got an extra few bites thanks to no more than 2 raisins.

Today is a most anticipated day around here. Maren gets home. Lillie has missed her mom quite a bit, but has been fine. Maren sent a package of books home from ALA by mail so she would not have to carry them on the plane, and they beat her home. We got the books yesterday. There is a new copy of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid that must have just come out with a green cover. Hansen spent the whole day reading that book yesterday. No Nintendo or anything...guess you just got to find the right book to get these boys reading.

See you tomorrow.

Choir, bowling.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Yesterday was a busy day for this fam. Hansen sings in the children's choir at church and they performed in both services. Yup, that means that Lillie and Preston had to attend both services, and Sunday school in between. They planned it so the choir sang toward the end of the first service, and the beginning of the second service. But we could not just leave after the kids sang due to the Kindergartners being honored and getting to lead the church in the Lord's the end of the service. Hansen and Lillie did a great job. Below is Hansen and some of the crew getting ready to enter the second service in their fancy robes.

After church, the church had a family bowling outing down at the old Kent Bowl. I had not been actually bowling since high school, back when we would go to Lewis and Clark Bowling alley just to hang out and bowl some. The kids had never in their lives been to a real bowling alley. I must admit that Wii Bowling did have them prepared. Except for how heavy the bowling balls really are, and how ugly the shoes really are. We had a great time.

Hansen's bowling pose.

Preston in action. Not the gutter!

Lillie just waiting to see if her ball makes it all the way to the pins. The little kids got to use the lanes with gutter rails...Lillie's ball would hit the rails 5 times, then hit the pins at 1.5 mph, bounce off the pins and knock a few down. The picture does not show her flapping her sleeves in circles waiting for the ball to make it to the pins.

Lillie's 20 year old bowling shoes looked pretty fancy!
See you tomorrow.

Nice visit. 2009 Seattle LIVESTRONG® Challenge.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday was a nice day around these parts. We had John, Carol, Stef, Mel, Court, Jack and Avery over for a visit. Very nice visit. The twins are moving along better than ever these days and Jack's two favorite things to do were go up the the stairs and look in Hansen's ears. Avery did not want to warm up to me yesterday, I made her mad a couple of times by messing with her while she leaned on the couch. So I had her most favorite Lillie come over and snuggle with me for a minute, that seemed to convince Avery that I was not so bad, and after that she was happy to let me help her walk a bit. Carol bought us Pizza Hut pizza, so we all ate just fine.

When John and Carol just got here I went off for a bike ride. I now have smooth tires on my mtb bike and have been on several rides of decent distance. Last night I registered for the 2009 Seattle LIVESTRONG® Challenge! The ride is on June 21st and is 100 miles. I have about 5 months to learn how to ride that far...should be no problem...or not too much of a problem...should be fun! Since the 2009 Seattle LIVESTRONG® Challenge is one of the fundraising rides I have my own little page that folks can donate money to the Livestrong organization in support of my riding the event. My special page is at this link:
I have not put a picture of me on the page yet...although the biker guy looks like it could be me.

This morning Hansen and the kids choir sing in both services at church today. I will have the video tape going since Maren is out of town and missing the fun. Lillie and Preston are just trying to figure out how to survive both services.

See you tomorrow.

Maren to ALA. Hansen in the box.

Good morning, it is Friday.

Trying to get Hansen to read is not easy. This big box came yesterday (one bike tire inside...waiting for the other?) Hansen really wanted to play in the box, so I told him he could only play in the box if he was reading his book for a book report that is closing in on him fast. He choose a long book, but did not bother reading it over break.

Today we loose Maren for 5 days. Boo Hoo. She is off to Denver for an ALA conference. We won't see her until Tuesday afternoon. This is really sad news for Preston...this means that he will have to do all the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, waking up his siblings and getting them ready for school, church, and soccer, as well as any other chores that need to be done...then get them ready for bed at night. Did I say Preston? Whoops, Preston will just be glad Maren's car is out of the garage and he will spend every waking moment doing skateboard tricks in the garage! I guess I will have to pick up the slack. Doh.

See you tomorrow.

Lake Morton.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday was a pretty calm day around here. Maren is packing for her ALA trip to Chicago this weekend and the rest of us are just cruising business as usual.

Last night at Lillie's dance class I used the time to walk around Lake Morton. Lake Morton is about a 2 mile loop which many people walk and bike everyday. Last night it was so foggy you could hardly see 20 yards in front of you. There were still plenty of walkers and bike riders. It seems that there are bicycle training classes or groups that practice pacing and drafting and possibly interval training around the two mile loop. When I got back to the waiting room at the dance class, a girl in Hansen's grade got up the courage to come up to me and ask, "Mr. Slane, is Hansen here tonight?" I said "Nope, he stayed home." What I did not say was how even if he was there, he would be too shy to say hi and would have spent the the whole time playing his GameBoy.

See you tomorrow.

Inauguration of Barack Obama.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Congratulations to the world. Obama is in the White House and Bush is back in Texas....that took way too long! All the classrooms at the school got to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama on the Smart Board. Even Lillie got to go into another Kindergarten class to watch. Excellent. Maren had a great day hanging out on the new couch, nose to the TV, eating her last piece of birthday cake, and enjoying her day...that is the way to use a vacation day!

Last night I had my second class on diversity for the KSD. Each class has a section where we are shown what it is like to not be able to communicate. The teacher spent about 15 minutes teaching a geography lesson in a foreign language. Sure, I could copy the pen marks on the little map, but I had no idea what was going on and my head hurt. I think I will just stay in Covington and be thankful that it is a good place to live.

Tonight Preston has soccer and Lillie has dance class. Hansen is off the hook for the evening.

See you tomorrow.

M. birthday. New President.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Maren had a very nice birthday day...I hope. She went out in the morning to run a few errands she wanted to run so Lillie and I got to wrapping presents and decorating the house. Lillie had this whole check list. Wrap presents, check. Make banner, check. Put up streamers, check. You get the idea. The banner below is a three part banner. Lillie decorated the Happy, Preston decorated the Birthday, and Hansen decorated the Maren!.

Here is a picture of Maren, her cake, and her kids. Wow. As it turned out, wrapping the presents with Lillie was not such a great idea. Lillie kept whispering to mom what her presents were through out the day. When Maren refused to listen, Lillie would then draw pictures of Maren's presents on the dry-erase board. When it was time for Maren to open her presents, I asked Lillie "are there any presents for mom here that you have not told her what they are?" Lillie thought for just a second and blurted out "Nope!" Of course, Maren had accidentally uncovered her stash of presents the night before while straightening up the room, and furthermore, she bought most of her presents else are you going to get what you want? Dinner of choice was take out Chinese food. Yum.
Today is the day Obama is sworn in as president. Maren actually is taking the day off from work so she can just hang out at home flipping from news channel to news channel. She also gets to snack on left over Chinese food and enjoy one last slice of the best ice-cream cake ever. Me and the kids will be at school, I hope that Preston and Hansen will be able to watch the Obama inauguration at school, at least some of it. If not, I am sure we will be able to see the highlights on TV or on YouTube.
See you tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Maren and Mom.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Happy Birthday Maren!!! Happy Birthday Mom!!!

This is the cake we will be sharing after dinner. Mom, I will eat an extra piece for you! This is a Cold Stone Creamery ice-cream cake called Midnight Delight. This is not all chocolate...there is a little fudge thrown in as well!

Have a great day. The kids are not in school this morning, thanks to Martin Luther King (we have a good collection of MLK books out for the kids to read). Maren was able to get a little breakfast in bed and a Happy Birthday song.

Here is a totally unrelated Lillie line from yesterday. Lillie left the dinner table early and wandered into the living room where the Football game was on the TV. All we heard was her shrieking voice yell "Oh no, a yellow and black guy just caught the football!" No one here is a Steeler fan! Go Arizona!

See you tomorrow.

Lets get the party started

Good morning, it is Sunday.

It is time to get the parties started. What party you may ask. There are plenty of parties going on these days. No school due to MLK day, reason to party-yes. Obama as new president, reason to party-yes. But that is not what I am talking about. Maren's (and my mom's) birthday is on the 19th and she always tries to get in as many parties as possible, and who would blame her? Last night we let the parties start by going out to Red Robin for dinner. Red Robin even bought her burger for her with a free birthday burger e-mail. Add a Margarita for the birthday girl and it is a party.

Today we will let the parties continue with, who knows, maybe a cake from Coldstone Creamery.

Party on Wayne, Party on Garth, Excellent!

See you tomorrow.

Soccer, birthday party.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

This morning we are up early getting ready for soccer. Preston's team is playing in the State Cup and today they have a game in Lacey WA. Yup, about an hour away. Preston was just saying how he wishes a game would be so far away that he could stay in a hotel and make a vacation out of a soccer game. Funny...that is exactly the opposite of what I wish for when it comes to soccer games.

Today Hansen has a birthday party at Kole's house. He will spend the morning cleaning his room and when 1:00 rolls around, he will be ready to party! January seems to be a popular month for birthdays. I know a couple in my own family with birthdays on Monday...

See you tomorrow.

Sparkle World

Good Morning, it is Thursday.

For the last three nights when I ask Lillie to grab a book for me to read to her...this is her choice: Sparkle World Magazine. Every 5 year old girl should have this magazine. You can fly from Polly Pockets to Angelina Ballerina with short stories and numbered pictures. Her Sparkle World Mags are all taped back together and well read, just like Hansen's Lego Catalogs. Thanks to Sparkle World and Lego Catalogs occasionally landing in the mail box, we have the daily fight over who checks the mail. Lillie says she will check it, then Hansen beats her to the box. I have had to enforce the whole Lillie opens the mail box, Hansen carries the mail in, or else...

See you tomorrow.

Will trade my brother for a Monkey!

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was a busy day. We brought Preston to math club which takes place from 8:00-9:00am. That means that Lillie and Hansen who don't usually even need to wake up until about 7:15am had to be ready to leave by 7:45am. Not so easy, but no problem when there is a reward! What reward you may ask. Well, the littles don't need to be at school until about 8:30am so we had a half an hour to kill. Starbucks! I bought then each a kids hot chocolate at the Starbucks in Safeway. They held their hot chocolates and perused the movie rental shelves com pairing movies and checking out gross covers from horror movies. My kids are a bit spoiled and a hot chocolate was almost not good enough. Hansen wanted a Frap, and Lillie wanted a Mocha. But when they realized that their options were kids hot chocolate or nothing...they chose wisely. They are spoiled, but not quite rotten.

I had an interesting diversity class last night. One game they made us play was to have us in groups of 4 at a table, read the rules to a card game (similar to Hearts), then no talking or writing. The winners would move up a table, the losers down a table. What they did not tell us that each tables directions for the game were a bit different. My original table played aces low and spades as an anytime trump card. The second table I ended up at played aces high. By the third table I had to clarify before starting the game. The last table I was at had no spade trump card rule. Interesting and fun game. Three more weeks of diversity training on Tuesdays.

Below is a cute picture of Lillie. She is wearing her new favorite shirt, "I will trade my brother for a MONKEY!". She is also wearing her fake mp3 player and looking rather tough with her hair all over. She would probably be texting her friends while driving her car to the mall if she had her way...and she would probably get away with it because she is so gosh darn cute.

See you tomorrow.

Short entry.

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

Yesterday my car never left the house. Today is a different story. Yesterday we biked to school/work, then came home and stayed home as Maren was working late and Preston had soccer practice. Between Hansen's homework, Lillie's pet care on her DS, and getting the kids bathed, that was plenty. Today Preston has math club before school so I will have all the kids up early to drive him. Then I have a class this evening. A required diversity class for my para job. I will be in class the next four Tuesday evenings from 4:30-7:00pm. From what I understand, I do get paid for the hours of class, which is nice.

Off to make lunches and wake up the kids, see you tomorrow.

A little shopping.

Good morning, it is Monday.

Lillie had a great time at her overnight. I picked her up in the morning and she wished she could stay longer. Now she is an overnight expert!

I took Hansen and Lillie out shopping to Toys R Us, a bicycle store, and Starbucks. Preston decided that it was a good enough reward to be home without the littles and without the car in the garage. He spent the day doing kick flips, ollies, and who knows what other skate boarding tricks he knows. Toys R Us was fun, we found a video game for Lillie, a Rubix Magic for Preston and some Tech Deck skate boards for Hansen. Lillie got the video game for her Gameboy DS. It is game called Catz where (you never learn the correct way to spell cats!) own cats and feed them and sell them if you don't like them and stuff like that. The kids agreed to go to the bicycle store with me as a trade off of going to Toys R Us. I am kind of looking at road bicycles. For now I ride my mt. bike on the road and I kind of like that, but it fun to go to bike stores and stuff...most likely for the riding I do, good road tires on the mt. bike may be just fine. We ended up at Starbucks. Hansen used his GC to buy himself a (lets see if I can remember) Grande Carmel Frapichino. Lillie calls is a Crapichinno (emphasis on the CRAP) and makes Hansen loose his mind! Lillie had a kids hot chocolate, and I got Maren a London Fog Tea as we got a coupon in the paper...I drank 1/3 of the Tea, and it was good.

The kids are having a tough time waking up so I am off to get them going.

See you tomorrow.

STP, Lillie's overnight.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday I went out to Jade Green to give the owner some golf balls. I have been thinking about giving up my PGA membership for several years (ever since Lillie was born and I went down to one or two days per week working) and now with my job as paraeducator, I have decided to do it for real. I have applied to get my amateur status is a two year wait period to get full amateur status back, but I can still play at a local club, just not in huge amateur tournaments until the wait period is over. Guess I am now a retired golf professional, I like that. Anyhow, I had several dozen golf balls (Wilson Zips) that I got recently due to being a PGA member, and I felt it was right to give them back. The Wilson rep recommended giving them to the golf course for prizes and such. So that is what I did. When the weather warms up I am sure I will go out and golf on the weekends with the kids or with friends, but for now I am possibly getting into a new hobby. Cycling. One of my co-workers rides the STP (Seattle to Portland) bike ride every year and said I could ride with their group...if I am willing to train with them when they start their long rides in a couple of months. This is the 30 year anniversary of the ride. It is 200 miles and most folks do it over two days, some do it in one, but that probably won't be me. I am thinking I will train for the ride, yesterday I rode my old bicycle 8 miles and I know for a fact that there will be no 200 mile race in the next month for me. Luckily the STP is in July.

I will be going to pick up Lillie from her first overnight in a little bit. We were almost late getting her to the party because both Maren and I thought the invite said 5:00pm, but at 3:00pm we saw the neighbor girl going down the hill with her sleeping stuff and realized the party began at 3:00pm. Lillie got there just fine and was ready to go. Maren got a phone call from Lillie at about 6:30pm, but it was just Lillie wanting Mar to bring her Princess Wii game down to Samantha's house. I am sure she had a great time.

See you tomorrow.

Chuck E Cheese.

Good morning, it is Saturday.

Last night I took my three kids along with Hansen's friend Kole to Chuck E Cheeses for dinner and fun. It was a mini birthday party for Hansen. Hansen did not want to invite too many friends, and of the three he invited, only Kole could make it. No Problem, it may have been better that way. Hansen and Kole took off and did their thing, while Preston stayed with Lillie. I think Preston was feeling just a bit old to be darting around Chuck E Cheeses, so darting around under the guise of helping Lillie navigate was great for both him and Lillie...even if Preston just slowed Lillie down just a bit. Below are a couple of pictures I took while the kids were pausing to eat pizza.

I like this picture because sweet little Lillie just looked like she wanted to snuggle up with Hansen for a birthday picture...then we noticed the bunny ears on Hansen. Yup, Lillie is a handful.
This is a picture of Hansen and his friend Kole.
Tonight Lillie has a sleep over at her friend Samantha's house for Samantha's birthday. This will be Lillie's first sleep over other than at a relatives house. She is very excited. Just a minute ago she yelled down the stairs "Dad, do I have school today?", I have her a little "NO!" shout back. Then came the "YEAH!...That must be why you did not wake me up?" Lillie does love school, but can appreciate a day off along with the best of them.
See you tomorrow.

Good morning, it is Thursday.

Yesterday it just rained and rained. My bicycle and trailer are not going to be dry by the time we leave this morning. I did put some old fenders on my commuter bicycle to help them off a 40+ year old JC Penney bicycle that was hanging in John and Carol's garage for the last 30 years! They fit just fine and don't look a day over 20 years old.

This picture is of Preston as he walked in from soccer. Lillie just could not stay out of the photo even if she was being swooshed away by Preston. Preston was drenched to the skin. They practiced for an hour and a half in sheets of rain. The funny thing was that Preston's ride (who lives 2 doors down) actually picked him up so he would not need to get wet!

See you tomorrow.

racks and rockers.

Good morning, it is Wednesday.

Yesterday was our first full day of school in a few weeks. Last night we were all worn out, especially me. Hansen thought he should be able to go shopping at any store he wanted as he has some money, but he also had homework and it was not like he did not shop just the day before. Maybe tonight I will give him another chance to spend some $$$. I have to exchange a couple of pairs of jeans I bought for Lillie...she is in between a 6 and a 7 in kid sizes (I bought size 6 as 7 are way too long). There is a 6x size, and it seems there are no "x" sizes in between the other sizes. The cloth makers must know something about the way little girls grow? I sure don't.

Yesterday as my work day was finishing up, I heard Lillie in the library (my office is just to the left of this picture next to the library) as she was the day's "reader rocker". I came around and snapped this photo:

This picture is of the new bicycle rack in the garage. It is like a very cheap version of a bicycle rack you might find in front of the school. I can hold 6 bicycles upright...I think it is great as now the bikes are not just thrown on top of each other. Between all the bicycles (and rack), the Coke machine, and all the other stuff, Maren must feel like she parks her car in the middle of a swap meet.
See you tomorrow.

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Good morning, it is Tuesday.

It was great to have a two hour delay on the first day back to school yesterday. Today we are not so lucky and I will be waking up the kids soon.

Preston had soccer practice and I took Hansen out to Fred Meyer in the evening. I really only needed to buy milk and cat litter, but Hansen had bigger ideas...he has a pile of birthday money burning a hole in his pocket. After checking out the Legos, Star Wars figures, bicycle parts, cards and video games, Hansen did purchase some Yuh Gi Oh cards. Store security probably had its eye on us the way we wandered around from place to place and back again for what seemed to be hours. Hansen saved plenty of money, so we will have to shop other stores in the future. On his list are Target, Walmart, Costco, and Starbucks. Yikes.

Today it is just rainy and warm around here. I think it may get up to 45 degrees as local rivers are looking at their flood banks.

See you tomorrow.

Birthday Bionicle.

Good morning, it is Monday.
Back to school and work. Only two hours late! Last night it must have snowed 3 inches of snow before it all turned to rain. It is a slushy mess outside right now.
The picture at the top of the page is of the giant Bionicle Hansen got for his birthday. He spent much of the day building it much to the chagrin of his friend Kole and some what to his cousin Alex. Alex spent the night on Saturday and did not mind helping and watching Bionicle building...for a while. Finally we made Hansen stop the building and play Ninento with Alex! The boys really did have a fun time. Hansen never did go play in the snow last night with the rest of the culd-e-sac as he was just a few instructions away from finishing the Bionicle. Kole kept coming to the door to see if Hansen would ever come outside to play...not that night.
See you tomorrow.

pics from yesterday.

Good morning, it is Sunday.

Yesterday we had a great birthday/birthday/anniversary party. Below are pictures.

Panorama photo of the party. It is not possible to get all the folks into one picture. The kids are sure lucky to have so many cousins around to party with. Preston is kind of on his own as he is older than everyone else, Miles is on his own as he is younger...but not a baby, but Hansen and Lillie have a few cousins each in their age range to hang with.
Hansen being woke up on his birthday morning. A birthday song, a cup of coffee, and a lego gift in bed...does it get any better?

Hansen and Maggie (Maggie is turning one!...she was ready to get messy)

Maggie enjoying her entire chocolate cake!

Hansen and another lego gift. It was a banner birthday for Hansen.

Me and Maren. Taken by Preston on our 18th anniversary.
See you tomorrow.

H. birthday, J. and M. anniversary.

Good Morning, it is Saturday.

Happy Birthday Hansen.

Happy 18th anniversary Maren.

Nine years ago, on this day, Hansen was born. Nine years before that, on this day, Maren and I were married. Cool.

Hansen always reminds us how lucky we are to have a child born on our anniversary day. He likes to say, "What is more important, an actual person [as in your son], or just an anniversary?" Usually my answer is something like, "Yeah, Yeah, your way more important than any go clean your room!"

Have a great day, we will.

See you tomorrow.

hang out day.

Good morning, it is Friday.

We woke up to more snow! Crazy as it sounds, we got about an inch last night. The roads are all fine, but it does look white again.

Yesterday we went to the Ostergard's house for dinner. Breakfast for dinner. Mel, Court, and the babies were also there. We all got to hang out with the babies and everyone. Jack and Avery are getting big. They are starting to recognize us (or not recognize us) They love having Preston, Hansen, and Lillie playing with them, they enjoy having Maren hold them, they are not so sure about me these days. Nana and Grandpa are definitely favorites.

Today is a hang out day for most of us. Hansen is counting down the minutes until his birthday tomorrow. Maren is meeting her friend Judy for lunch and sight seeing. I am going to put my bicycle back together today. I have new tires, cables, seat and grips. I painted the frame and fork a flat black, it looks pretty tough. I also painted my left hand flat black...looks kind of lame.

See you tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

Good morning, it is Thursday.

We partied in the new year! Kind of. Well, much as you can party with this motley crew. Lillie made it to midnight no problem! First time ever for her. We had sparkling cider and triple chocolate mess. After a little sparkling cider, it was outside for some sparklers. The rain was ringing in the new years as well, so not too many fireworks this year....from us. The kids stayed outside for 20+ minutes with some of the neighbor kids, watched all the fireworks exploding around the neighborhood, and ran around yelling Happy New Years.
Here are the kids as the year changes downing the sparkling cider.
Preston is showing off his triple chocolate mess.
Have a great new year. See you tomorrow.
